HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-23-1961 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY February 23, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety, met in regular session in City Hall at 9:00 AM, with City Controller Wilson, president of the Board presiding. All members present, the following business was had to wit: City Controller Wilson moved, that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board approved a request for a curb cut by Joe Jenkins at 421 South 21st street. A request for a fire hydrant at South 3rd and "M" street, was referred to City Engineer Sherick and Fire Chief Klotz for study and recommendation. City Controller Wilson moved that the architect contract for the new fire station be awarded to Wilson & Terwilliger, unanimous Board approval. Fire Chief Klotz named Melvin Price and Roland Walls from the Richmond Fire Department to attend the firemens instruction school at Memphis, Tenn. February 27 through March 3, 1961. A discussion was held between the Board, Fire Chief Klotz and Police Chief Conyers, concerning the co-ordination of the departments on fire runs that involves one way streets. The Board instructed the Clerk to prepare a Resolution to be presented to Council, for the appointment of appraisers for the possible sale of City owned property at the following locations: Fire Station, South 9th & "E" Lot in Ravina Park o o - o a �--C Lot on South 12th (Garfield School) o o � 2 Property at North 8th & "C" a o o o Captain Stout, reported that the change-over to one way traffic on 8th and 9th streets, Tuesday February 21, 1961, was made with very little difficulty, and said that only a few minor adjustments would have to be made. Captain Stout, Traffic, said that a meeting with funeral directors would be held in the near future to discuss a pattern for funeral processions, possibly with only the hearse and family cars in the procession, and others going to the cemetery. The Board approved Assessment Roll No. 1038-1960-1 (curbs and gutters from West Main at 18th to the Salisbury Road, both sides ). The Clerk was instructed to advertise for a public hearing to be held March 9, 1961, for persons interested in the Roll. Captain Stout, reported that a strict enforcement of the speed laws on 8th and 9th streets would start Monday February 27, 1961. . A discussion was held, concerning the new radio equipment needed to change- over to a high band, frequency of the Police and Fire Departments radio communication system, no action was taken.
