HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-16-1961 Page 137 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY RICHMOND, INDIANA February 16, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall at 9:00 AM, with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had to wit: City Controller Wilson moved, that the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The Board approved the installation of a canopy by Tony Polver, at the Hackman-Eickemeyer store located at 10th and Main street. City Controller Wilson moved, that the Board award the bid for four (4) police cruisers to the Kurdys Chevrolet Co. Kurdys having the lowest bid of $7829,4.4, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. A petition by residents living in the vicinity of South "Q" street and the Point Service Station" for the extension of a sewage line, was referred to the Engineering office for study and recommendation. Robert R. Rhoads, Contractor, presented a petition for a fire hydrant at Southwest 18th and "G" street, referred to the City Engineer, for recommendation. City Controller Wilson moved that the date of March 9, 1961, be set to open sealed bids on a new fire truck, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. • The Board gave Fire Chief Klotz permission to send two (2) fireman to a firemens school at Memphis, Tenn. February 27 to March 3, 1961. The Board will meet with Don Bell, Monday 3:30 PM, February 20, 1961, in the Mayors Office, concerning changes in insurances for the Civil City. The matter referred to the Sanitary District. The Board instructed Fire Chief Klotz to prepare a fire code for Richmond. Captain Stout, Traffic, reported that at 9:00 AM, Tuesday February 21, 1961, the change-over to one way traffic on 8th and 9th streets from north "C" to south "Q" street would be in effect. Stout said 4 crews from the State Highway Department would install 240 left and right signs Tuesday morning, sand bags would be used as temporary islands at North "C" and at South 9th street, until it is determined that they are in the right place, then cement islands will be installed. The Board approved the removal of a tree in the 800 block of South "E" street, as it blocked the vision of motorist from seeing overhead. signs. Park Commissioner McBride was instructed by the Board to advertise for bids, for the removal of dead trees. On recommendation of Captain Stout, the Board approved the removing of parking on ,both sides of Elm Place, from 10th to 11th streets. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
