HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-09-1961 Page 136 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY RICHMOND, INDIANA February 9, 1961 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall at 9:00 AM, with City Controller Wilson presiding, all members present. The following business was had to wit: 111 . City Attorney Cecere moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous: meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Cler presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in Assessment Roll 1029-1959. No persons being present desiring to remonstrate against the roll, City Controller Wilson moved, that the roll be confirmed, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. Proofs of publication were accepted and ordered filed. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in Declaratory Resolution No. 3-1961. The proofs were accepted and ordered filed. Mrs Lillian Fech, 119 South 9th street, appeared to remonstrate, Clarence A. Jolliff and Everett Bolander filed remonstrances by letter. ( The objections were concerning price) City Attorney Cecere moved that the Resolution be confirmed, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Board ordered City Engineer Sherick to prepare an assessment roll for the properties, The Board adopted a Confirmatory Resolution in conjuction with Declaratory Resolution No. 3-1961. " A Resolution to acquire property in the vicinity of south 9th and 10th streets between "A" and "B" streets, for a proposed City owned parking lot ". Mr. Gilbert Hudelson appeared before the Board, concerning a building on his property at 1116 North "G" street, that has been condemned by the Commissioner of Buildings. The Board allowed Mr. Hudelson three (3) weeks to get permits and hire contractors to bring the building up to fire and sanitary standards or legal steps will be taken to raze the building. The Board approved the installation of a canopy for the Pronto Services, at 17-19 North 6th street. The Board on the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers, authorized the Police Department to notify all parties that have "RED" or "FLASHING" lights on their vehicles that are in violation of the State Law, to have them removed immediately, or face arrest. The Board took under advisement a plan for payroll deduction for City employees, in conjuction with the Reid Memorial Hospital Expansion Drive. Mr. Don Larkin, representive of the Minnesota Mining Co. presented a new type "Scotchlite" street signs to the Board. Captain Stout, of the Police Traffic Department was ordered to take an inventory of the present supply of Street signs, before new signs are purchased. City Attorney Cecere moved that the Board approve the proposal of the Richmond Power and Light to modernize the street lighting on 8th and 9th, streets from north "C" to south "Q" streets as per estimate, the installation to start immediately, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Board approved the installation of seven (7) street lights on the Elks Country Club Road. Captain Stout, traffic, was ordered to replace "Commons Road" signs with "Peacock Road" signs, from northwest 18th to the Salisbury Road. Out buildings at 1722 and 1724 North "F" street, owned by Merriot McElroy 67 North "I" street, were ordered to be razed as recommended by City Health Commissioner Andrew Hutton. . February 9, 1961 (continued) Captain Stout, Traffic Department, reported that he had sent letters to all parties making deliveries in the City of Richmond, Indiana, there would be a meeting at City Hall, February 16,- 1961 to explain the new one way traffic, parking restrictions and far corner bus stops. City Attorney Cecere moved to approve Captain Stout's recommendations to make 7th street one way northbound from south "E" to Fort Wayne Avenue, and to make 6th street one way southbound. from Fort Wayne Ave. to south • "E" street, seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
