BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
RICHMOND, INDIANA
February 2, 1961
The Board of Public Works and Safety, met in regular session in City Hall, with
City Controller Wilson presiding, City Attorney Cecere was absent, the following
business was had to-wit:
City Controller Wilson moved, that the minutes of the previous meeting be
dispensed with,seconded by City Engineer Sherick.
The Clerks presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to
open sealed bids, for one (1) 1961 automobile for the use of the office of the
City Engineer, and four (4) automobiles (station wagons ) for the use of the
Police Department. City Controller Wilson moved that the proofs be accepted
and filed, seconded by City Engineer Sherick. The bids on an automobile
(1961 2 door 6 cyl. ) are as follows: ( for the use of the City Engineer )

The Board took the bids under advisement to check the bidders specifications.
The bids for four (4) 1961 station wagons to be used as police cruisers, are
as follows: The bid is the net price, ( less trade ins)

The Board took the bids under advisement.

The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers, to appoint
Terrell LeRoy Lafuze, 409 South West "F" street, as a probationary patrolman,
effective February 15, 1961.
Fire Chief Klotz reported, that he had visited two fire stations in Muncie last
week, to obtain ideas for the proposed new fire station to be built here, visits
to Springfield and Dayton, Ohio this week to inspect new fire stations built in
those cities will be made.

Fire Chief Klotz reported that he had been in conference with William Shoemaker
of the Richmond Water Works Corporation, concerning water mains and hydrants in
the vicinity of South "L" street, 16th to 23rd streets.
The Board of Works adopted two Memorial Resolutions to former City Officials,
former Mayor William J. Robbins, and Harry Aiken a former assisstant fire chief.
City Attorney Cecere will prepare the resolutions and they will be recorded in
the minutes. The deaths of'.these former City Officials occured this week.
A survey for new street lighting by the Richmond Power and Light, for 8th and
9th streets from North "C" street to South "Q" street was submitted to the
Board, the survey showed an approx. $14,000.00 per year increase in the billing '
for the proposed new lighting, the Board took the matter under advisement.
An estimate for new street lighting on the Elks Country Club Road, was taken
under advisement by the Board.
The Board approved plats for the 2nd and 3rd Crestdale additions.
There being no further business the meeting adjourned.
Mr. Gilbert Hudelson, 11 South 11th street, Richmond, Indiana, failed to appear
before the Board, concerning condemnation proceedings against his property, located
at 1116 North "C" street, a registered letter to appear Feb, 2.,_ 1961_-se_
