HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-08-1960 Page 127 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY RICHMOND, INDIANA December 8, 1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Controller Wilson presiding. Board members City Attorney and Acting City Engineer Ross were present. The following business was had to-wit: City Controller Wilson, moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Attorney Cecere, unanimous voice vote. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in assessment roll +1022-1960 for the improvement of Parry Street, City Attorney Cecere moved that the proofs be accepted and filed, seconded by Acting Engineer Ross. There being no persons present desiring to express themselves the presiding officer, City Controller Wilson, declared the assessment roll confirmed, and so ordered. The Board approved the recommendation of William Adler of the Parking Meter Department the addition of two (2) mercury vapor lights on the north 10th street City Parking Lot, and referred the matter to the Richmond Power and Light for an estimate. The Board approved a request by the Wayne County Tuberculosis Association to Station the mobile chest x-ray unit from December 12th to December 22nd 1960 at the south entrance to the Knollenberg's store. The Board rejected a request for two (2) curb cuts , one on the east side of south 13th street, and one on the south side of South "E" street by Earl Minnix, for the Williams Floor and Tile Company, because of the heavy traffic at that corner. Mayor Cutter, reported that he had talked to officials of the Indiana State Highway Department and a meeting was arranged for next week to be held here to discuss the installation of signs on 8th and 9th streets for the change-over to one way streets. P.T. Vermillion, Engineer Director, Division of Traffic Engineering is scheduled to represent the State Highway Department at the meeting. Captain Stout, Traffic Department, reported that the Indiana State Highway Department were installing "NO PARKING" signs on both sides of West Fifth street, from the National Road West, north to a point 250 feet north of Richmond Avenue. Enforcement of the ban on parking on either side will start immediately. The Clerk was instructed by the Board to advertise for sealed bids to be opened December 29, 1960 to contractors for the modernization of Traffic Signals and Interconnections at ten (10) intersections on 8th and 9th streets, in conjuction with the change-over to one way streets. The Board referred a bent light pole at West Second and Richmond Avenue to the Richmond Power and Light for replacement. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
