BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
December 1, 1960 '
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall,
with City Controller Wilson presiding. City Attorney Cecere and Acting
City Engineer Ross present. The following business was had to-wit:
City Controller Wilson, moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Attorney Cecere, unanimous voice
vote.
Ralph E. Snavely, Weight and Measures Inspector, submitted his monthly report
showing 2987 inspections, with 104 errors being found, no prosecuions were
made.
The Board approved the recommendation of Police Chief Conyers, by appointing
Donald E. Firth, 21 South 13th street, as a probationary Patrolman, effective
December 7, 1960.
Captain Stout, Traffic, reported that he had organized a special traffic
detail, to operate during the Christmas rush, December 12, 1960 through
January 1, 1961.

The Board approved the installation of five (5) fire hydrants to be located
at the following places.

(1) West Main street--24th (1) North West "A" street--24th
(1) West Main street--25th (1) North West "A" street--25th
(1) North West "A" street--26th
Fire Chief Klotz, reported a fire hazard at the residence of Harry Henley,
201 North 14th street, created by the storage of wood in the yard, the
complaint was referred to Building Commissioner Sligar for investigation.
Building Commissioner Sligar, reported that he had issued a "STOP WORK" order
to the Gilmer Trailer Court, 714 N.W. 5th street for constructing an addition
to their office without the necessary permits.
Captain Stout, traffic, made a preliminary check of the taxi-cabs that are now
in- use in the City, in conjuction with the new Taxi Ordinance No. 1773-1960,
the cabs now being operated in the City are:

Mayor Cutter received a letter from Leslie Sherich, accepting the appointment
as City Engineer, effective January 1 , 1961.
There being no further business , the meeting adjourned.
