Sideris, Council President PROCLAMATION CELEBRATING JUNE AS PRIDE MONTH - 2022 Vincent J. Piccirilli, Jr., Vice President & District C councilor WHEREAS: Our nation has officially celebrated Pride Month in June since 1999; John M. Airasian and Councilor At Large Caroline Bays WHEREAS: During Pride Month, Americans everywhere recognize the right of Councilor At Large each of us to live freely and authentically, consistent with our country's vision of equality for all; and John G. Gannon, Councilor At Large WHEREAS: While society at large increasingly supports Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Anthony Palomba, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, and their Allies (LGBTQIA+) equality, the Councilor At Large need for education and awareness remains vital to end discrimination and prejudice; Nicole Gardner, and District A Councilor Lisa J. Feltner, WHEREAS: The Watertown Free Public Library and Watertown Public Arts and District B Councilor Culture are offering a robust month of programs including Pride Extravaganza to show the vibrancy and strength of the City of Watertown because of this diversity; Emily Izzo, and District D Councilor WHEREAS: The City of Watertown stands in solidarity with LGBTQIA+ people and calls upon the people of this municipality to embrace the dignity of every individual and work to eliminate prejudice everywhere it exists; and WHEREAS: celebrating Pride Month builds awareness and provides support and advocacy for the City of Watertown's LGBTQIA+ people and is an opportunity to take action and engage in dialogue to build acceptance and advance equal rights. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Watertown hereby proclaims the month of June 2022 Pride Month and urges all citizens to join the celebrations. IN WITNESS HEREOF, I have hereunto set our hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Watertown to be affixed on this 24th day of May 2022 Mark S. Sideris, City Council President
