BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
October 69 1960
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session at 9:00 AM,
City Attorney Cecere and City Controller Wilson attending, the following
business was had to-wit:
The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. -
Six persons residing in the vicinity of Northwest 1st street and Richmond
Ave. appeared at the Board meeting to hear a report of the survey and
recommendations of Lt. Troy Wolf for that intersection. The Board approved
the following recommendations:
1. Paint designs to the East approach to the intersection and install
turtles on both sides.
2. Control speed-- cruiser patrol.
3. Installation of the new type school signs.
Eight persons representing the Hibberd School P.T.A. attended the meeting to
hear the Traffic Departments recommendations as to a crossing guard at South
9th and "J" street. Lt. Troy Wolf, Juvenile Officer, recommended a crossing
guard, with the following provisions.
1. That the P.T.A. and school officials institute an educational program,
insisting the students cross 9th street at the point where the guard is stationed.
2. After sufficient time has lapsed and no improvement shown, guard be
eliminated.
3. After 9th street is made one way, if a sufficient break in traffic
caused by the stop sign at South 9th and "L" street to permit a safe crossing,
guard be eliminated,
The Board approved the dedication of a strip of land to the City of Richmond, 111
by Earl Daggy for the extension of Southwest 20th street.
It was resolved by the Board that a Memorial Resolution be adopted for Ben H.
Deuker former City Engineer, and recorded in the minutes of the Board of
Public Works and Safety, for posterity, also a copy of the Resolution be for-
warded to his surviving widow, Elisabeth M. Deuker.
There being no further matters to consider, the meeting adjourned.
