BOARD OF PUBLIC WOPKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA
August 18, 1960
The Board of Public Works and. Safety met in regular-session in the City
Nall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present, the
following business was had to-wit:
City Engineer Deuker moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous -
meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Attorney Cecere.
The Clerk read proofs of publications that this date had been set to
hear persons interested in ImprovementResoltion No. 1038-1960 " The
Improvement of West Main street, west of west Main and 18th streets to the
Salisbury Road" , by the construction of curbs and gutters and paved street.
No taxpayers desiring to express themselves , City Attorney Cecere moved
the Resolution be confirmed, seconded by City Controller Wilson, The
Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids, which are to be opened
September 8, 1960.
Mayor Cutter reported he has had complaints from residents in the vicinity
of the race track, concerning go-cart races last Saturday, also the running
of go-carts on the parking lot of Marsh's Super Market. The Board referred
the matter to the Police Department for investigation.
The Board approved the installation of a street light at south west 2nd
and "J" streets, petitioned for by residents in that vicinity.
The Board referred a petition for a street lighting survey from south 5th
and "L" street to south 7th and "L" streets, requested by Norman Johanning
of the Johanning Oil Products Co. to the Light Plant for recommendation and
estimate.

The Board approved sending Patrolman Claude Hunt of the Police Department
to Bloomington September 25th to August 7, 1960 to attend a police
training school at Indiana University.
Capt. Stout, Traffic, reported that James Cox of the Indiana State Highway
Department would be here next week to survey the traffic flow from Henley
Road to the Elk's Road, which area has a high accident rate, also Capt. Stout
said mid-block pedestrian lanes on. 8th and 9th streets, north and south of
• Main street was approved by the Highway Department.
The Board rejected a petition for curb cut for a drive-way into a proposed
parking lot on south "A" near 8th street, requested by Dr. Frank H. Coble.
The Board approved the widening of a private drive to 12ft. at 225 south
20th street, requested by David Oberle.

City Engineer Deuker reported Attorney Willard Bowen's client had approved
the Board of Works proposition, concerning the opening of north "B" street
from 6th to Fort Wayne Avenue, in that his client will trade a. portion of
their real estate for a portion of property to be acquired by the City.
The Board of Works approved a request from the Tarum Shrine Club to hold
a parade and circus in the City August 25th, 1960
• The Clerk was instructed to write a letter to the Raper Sales informing
them that their new sign was on City Property, in violation of a City
Ordinance. •
The Clerk was instructed to write Kahle Bros. informing them to adjust
a window curb in the alley, north of their store to the alley 1 vel.
