HomeMy Public PortalAbout07-07-1960 Page 9,1 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY July 7, 1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding, City Attorney Cecere was absent, the following business was had to-wit:. • City Engineer Deuker moved that the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk read proofs of publication that this date had been set to open sealed bids for the razing of the building at 225 North 8th street. The following bids were opened: $190.00----Cox Excavating---704 South 6th street, City $745.00----Ford 0. Roan---- 381- South 16th street, city . $1,195.00- Glazer Scrap Co. -650 North 8th street, City • City Controller Wilson moved to award the bid to the Cox. Excavating Co. ,,, subject to the contractor complying to insuranee and razing specifications.. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. • Fire Chief Klotz, reported that David Russell had passed his physical examination and was appointed probationary Fireman, effective July 3, 1960. The Board of Public Works and Safety approved the adoption of Improvement Resolution No. 1036-1960, a resolution to improve South 18th street, by the construction of concrete pavement, concrete curb and gutters and concrete sidewalks, on both sides .of street where not already existing between south "H" street and South "I" streets. The 'Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids. City Controller Wilson, recommended that the Board of Works prepare an Ordinance with the penalty for persons not cutting the weeds on their • property, referred to City Attorney Cecere for recommendation and study. The Board received four resolutions from the Indiana State Highway _ Department, in conjuction with the new one-way streets. (1) Regulation of ,speed on US #27 in the City of Richmond, (2) Setting up certain preferential streets, , (3) Establishing one way streets, (4) Restricting parking on sections of one-way streets. • James Cox, Indiana State Highway Engineer for the Greenfield District, met . with the Board of Works and :explained some of the States plans to extend the one-way system. Mr. Cox said the order will be completed by August 1, 1960 and they estimated. that the work be done and the operation of 8th and 9th streets as one way would start approx October 1, 1960.
