HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-23-1960 Page 93 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY • June 23,1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present, the following business was had to-wit: Board President Wilson moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with. Seconded by Mr. Deuker. Mr. George Borton presented a petition for the paving of west Main street from 733 feet west of the west line of N.W. 18th street, to Salisbury Road. Said petition was also for curbs where needed. The Board referred the Petition to the Engineer for study and preparation. Mr. Dee Sharp, of the Ohio Oil Co. , appeared before the Board and re- quested permission for a curb cut at a new filling station at south 9th and "G" street. The Board approved the request provided the Oil Co. dedicate a 3.6 foot strip to the City of Richmond. Said 3.6 strip to be used for sidewalks. Board President Wilson reported that the curb at 217 N.W. 10th street was completely gone. This location is a bus stop. The Board directed that this compaint be forwarded to the Street Department. Mayor Cutter discussed the light post proposed for installation at 11th & Main streets and asked just where this post was to be installed. Mr. Deuker stated that he had written the light plant and advised them to install the light in accordance with the recommendation of that agency. The Board concurred in this action. The board directed that the Clerk write a letter to the Commons Lumber Company and advise them to pave that section of South 14th street which is appurtenant to their subdivision. Mayor Cutter discussed a leaning tree at 529 Pearl street and the Board directed that the Engineer investigate and determine whether or not this is a City responsibility and whether or not it is a hazard. Mr. Cecere presented a copy of a letter re: waterpressures required for sprinkler systems. The copy was forwarded by the Committee of 100 and the Board directed that a copy be made and sent to the Richmond Water Works Corp. Mr. Clinton and Mr. Robert O'Maley appeared re: the Gilmer Trailer Court and drawings for the remodeling of that court and explained said plans. After lengthy discussion, the Board moved to accept the plans. Capt. Stout, of the Traffic Division, reported that the Taxi Ordinance would go into effect on July 1st, 1960 and that he had discussed details of the Ordinance with cab owners. Capt. Stout further reported that the State Highway Department would install new traffic signals at 16th & Main streets and also install walk & wait lights. The Board instructed the Clerk to inform Mr. E. Eastman of the State Highway Department that they have failed to paint the cross-walks on state routes in the City. The Board instructed Capt. Stout to inform the owners of a parking lot on south "E" street between 8th and 9th streets to construct a rear exit, or post signs indicating that persons backing onto "E!' street will be arrested in accordance with the traffic ordinance. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a resolution transferring $500.00 from the Radio Fund to the Radio Equipment Fund in the Police budget. The Indiana State Highway Department informed the Board that they had passed the resolution concerning Route #27 one-way streets in Richmond on June 13th, 1960 and would take over the maintenance of 8th and 9th streets on July 1st, 1960.. Page 94 June 23, 1960 City Attorney Cecere moved to accept the request of Patrolman Donald E. Bates Jr. for a leave of absence from July 3rd to August 27th, 1960 in order that he might attend the Indiana State recruit training school. Board approval was III unanimous. The Board instructed the Clerk to advertise for the razing of the property on the southeast corner of north 8th & "C" streets. There being no further business the meeting adjourned. --e gt"--61.'"--.
