HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-16-1960 Page 91 BQAkb of PUBLIC WORKS ANT SAFETY June 16, 1960 • The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session .in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding, all members present, . the following business was- had to-wit: City Engineer Deuker moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to hear persons interested in Assessment Roll No. 1031-1959, :( curbs and gutters on North 28th street ). No taxpayers being present desiring - to express themselves, City Controller Wilson moved the roll= be confirmed, seconded by City Engineer Deuker. No taxpayers being present desiring to express themselves, City Engineer Deuker moved the roll be confirmed, seconded by City Attorney Cecere. Mildred Parks, 401 South 13th, Lloyd Pyle, 334 South 14th, and others appeared before the Board concerning the bad condition of South "D" Street, between 13th and 14th street. The Board instructed City Engineer Deuker to . investigate the street and make recommendations to the street department for repairs. Robert O'Maley, attorney for the Gilmer Trailer Court, appeared before the Board in their behalf, as this date had been set by the Board for certain requirements to be completed, and as the drawings fot the plat are still in the office of R.W. Clinton & Associates and not completed. The Board moved to request Mr. Clinton to appear- before the Board June 23, 1960 with drawings and plans for the completion of the State and Local requirements • for- the Trailor court, for the possible extension of time. Representives of the Light Plant and Fire Department are to be in attendance, concerning this matter. Mrs. R. Mc Pherson, Mrs. D. Wisenberg and Mr. W. Wood, property owners residing on North 36th street, appeared before the Board with complaints of the bad condition of this street. The Board instructed City Engineer Deuker to inform the contractor ( Reed & Son ) specifically what is needed to complete the job, before the City pays for the work. Street Commissioner, reported he had spread 400 gal. of dust killer -on the street. The Board approved 2-30 ft. drives for a building being erected on South "L" near 5th street, by Norman Johnning. • The Board approved a curb at 631 Richmond,Ave. The Board approved a request from E.Ross, Chief Engineer of the Sanitary . District for the_ conversion of radio equipment now in use by the Police Dept. That is to be replaced by new units, to the Sanitary District. • The Board approved the transfer of funds in the street department and , instructed the Clerk to prepare an Ordinance to transfer $3000.00 from " Repair to Traffic lights to street and alley materials , and an Ordinance to transfer $7000.00 from street department General Fund to street and alley materials. . The Board approved a request from Mrs W.H. Pritchard, director of the vacation school to have the parking meters hooded from the corner of North 10th and "A" street west to the service station from 1:00 to 3:30 PM June 20-30. • The Board approved the installation of a street light between 5th and 6th on South "C" street, as per light plant estimate ( $110.91 ) The Board instructed Capt. Stout, Traffic, to have the Haag Drug Store .to mark their entrances and exits with illuminated signs. Page 92 June 16, 1960 The Board approved restricting parking on South "E" street, between 8th & 9th streets, on recommendation of Capt. Stout, Traffic, in conjuction with the new one way streets. . Capt. Stout, Traffic, reported 4 hour parking meters and signs had been installed on South "A" street between 5th & 6th streets. Capt. Stout, Traffic, reported stop signs were being installed at the following locations. South 11th & "H" street • South 11th & "I" street South 10th & "H" street South 10th & "I" street Also, a " SLOW SCHOOL CHILDREN " sign on south 13th street between "0" & "Q" st. - City Attorney. Cecere, drafted a letter to the State Highway Department to obtain a meeting with the Board, concerning the progress of the proposed one way streets ( US #27 ). The bituminous street materials bid was awarded to the three divisions of the Magaw Company, Asphalts, Inc. Construction Inc. Hot Mix, Inc. The gravel and stone materials bid was awarded to the DeBolt Concrete Company, with 2 ( two ) exceptions of materials, pea gravel and waste sand will be bid ' for on the open market. The Clerk was instructed to prepare a Declaratory Resolution to transfer $27,000.00 from " OFF STREET PARKING " to the " CITY GENERAL FUND " for the improvement of North "B" street from Fort Wayne Ave. to 6th street. Also, an Ordinance to transfer the $27,000.00 from the " CITY GENERAL FUND to the BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY. • THERE being no further business, the meeting adjourned. • , President Attest: Clerk
