HomeMy Public PortalAbout05-20-1960 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS.AND SAFETY MAY 20, 1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in City Hall, the regular session being moved to Friday as some of the members were out of the City. All members were present today. The following business was had to-wit: City Engineer Deuker moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Board approved a request from the Moore-Irvin Post #359 of the American Legion, to have a parade Saturday May 21, 1960, starting at 6:00 PM from the South 10th street Park to the Post at North 8th and "D" street. The Board received a petition from the National Record Pressing Inc. located at 300 south 1st street, signed by 297 employees to remonstrate against the vacating of South "A" street from 1st to 2nd street. Mike Derago appeared before the Board, asking permission to build a temporary Fruit stand on North 10th street next to Katz Diner, for 18 months, at which time a permanent building will be constructed. This subject to compliance to the building code. Permission_ granted. Building Commissioner Sligar, explained the reason for not awarding the bids for razing of condemned buildings, as a lack of funds for this project, and said according to the Indiana Statutes a City the size of Richmond can have a demolition fund in their budget. Assessment Rolls 1031-1959 ( curbs and gutters north 28th ) and. 1032-1959 (curbs and gutters south "D" between 13th and 14th streets) were approved by the Board and the Clerk instructed to advertise for a Public Hearing ( June 16th ) . The Board approved the widening of private drives at 2325 East Main street, 1433 Chester Blvd. and 1431 Chester Blvd. The Board approved the curb cut at the Pure Oil Station at North 11th and "E" street be increased to 30 ft. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to open bids for a street sweeper, the proofs wereaccepted and ordered filed. The following bids were opened: Deeds Equipment Co. Indianapolis, Ind. 13,583.00 Optional Equipment is included in the bids: City Engineer Deuker moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Board approved the restricting of parking for race day May 30, 1960, on the south side of Main street from 3rd to 17th street, and on the south side of the National Road from 2nd to 3rd street. The Board approved the moving of the bus stop at 16th and Main street (2) spaces West, on the recommendation of Capt. Stout. Capt. Stout, Traffic, reported that all traffic lights had been cleaned and oiled. City Attorney Cecere, moved to hire Joseph Perkins as a part time employee of the City, on the recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz, for the purpose of pinch-hitting for fireman during the vacation period, seconded by City Controller Wilson. 6%; ),r/' 43 There being no further business the meeting adjourned. --g".. . . --.
