BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY
APRIL 28, 1960
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall
with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The follow-
ing business was had to-wit:
City Attorney Cecere, moved that the minutes of the previous meeting be
dispensed with; seconded by City Controller Wilson.
Mel Price, reported that progress was being made at the Gilmer Trailor
Court in compling with the order of the Board of Works to correct health
and fire hazards.
Bids were opened for street materials from the following firms:
J. E. Evans, Indianapolis, Indiana, for Corrigated and Concrete Pipe.
DeBolt Concrete Co. Richmond, Indiana, for Verified Pipe and Readi-Mix.
Cannelton Sewer Pipe Co. Cannelton, Indiana, for sewer Pipe.
Board President Wilson, moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded
by City Attorney Cecere. (the Clerk presented proof of publication).
The Board approved City Attorney Cecere's motion to file an objection to
the vacation of South "A" street from 1st to 2nd, requested by the John Graf Reality Co. , and the C & 0 Railroad, the Richmond Fire and Police
Departments and City Engineer Deuker are to make a study and report on
the matter. A hearing has been set foi. 9:00AM May 16th, 1960.
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set'to
open sealed bids for supplying the various departments with coal. On
motion of City Controller Wilson the bid for coal was rejected, and to
readvertise for coal bids, seconded by City Attorney Cecere.
City Attorney Cecere, moved to award the bid to supply the various
departments with gasoline June 1, 1960 to May 31, 1961, to the Ohio Oil
Company on their low bid, pursuant to proposal. The motion was approved
by the Board.
The Board requested City Engineer Deuker to notify Charles Stoddard, 830
Whitewater Blvd. to stop further filling in the Whitewater River bottom,
just south and west of U.S. #27 along the Whitewater Blvd. as the
dumping is narrowing the river channel.
The Board approved the appointment of Howard Crist to regular patrolman,
having completed one year of probation. On recommendation of Chief
Mitrione.
The Board approved on recommendation of Capt. Stout, traffic, to make
the alley between south "M" and "N" streets, just west of 8th streets,
one way southbound, and have properly signed.
The Clerk presented proof of publication that this date had been set to
hear persons interested in assessment roll 1033-1959. No tax payers
being present desiring to express themselves, City Attorney Cecere moved
to confirm the roll as each property described in said roll has been
benefited by the amount stated on said roll, seconded by City Engineer
Deuker.
The Board of Works set July 1, 1960 as the date for putting into effect
the section of the traffic ordinance covering registration and licensing
of bicycles.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
