HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-21-1960 ayt 77 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA April 21, 1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall Thursday, April 21 , 1960 at 9:00 A.M. City Controller Wilson presiding. All members being present. The following business was had to-wit; The leading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The acting Clerk presented proofs of publication showing this date had been set to receive bids for coal, fuel oil and gasoline. The proofs were accepted and ordered filed. The following bids were received. Coal Kendall Coal Co. , 549 North 10th St. Richmond,Indiana total bid $3068.85 Fuel Obl V. H. H. Calbeck 19.350 All prices are based on current tank , Warfield Oil 19.30 wagon price. Standard Oil 20.10 The Ohio Oil 19.20 All of the above bids were taken under advisement. The Board ordered the installation of new type street lights, ( the same type as used between 6th and 10th streets on Main St.) on Main street between 4th and 6th streets and 10th and 12th streets. The Board con- firmed the installation of new lighte on Main street between 6th and 10th streets. The Board further ordered that mercury vapor, pendulant type, lights be installed from the 1st St. bridge to 4th St. ( on Main St. ). City Controller Wilson advised the Board that notices have been received from the State Tax Board approving $14,000 from the Street fund and $5,500 from the General fund. The State Tax Board did not approve $5,000 for tree removal. The reason stated was the fact that 3 councilman opposed the appropriation. The Board granted approval for two (2) men from the Fire Dept. to attend an arson school at Purdue. The dates of the school are Apri125-29. Health, Fire and Building Officials were by the Board to inspect the Gilmer Trailer COurt at N.W. 5th and Indiana Ave. and make a report to the Board. The above mentioned officials were further ordered to issue an order to the owner or operator to correct all violations, if any, within twenty (20 ) days or in the event that corrections are not accomplished, to direct the Municipal Electric Lighting and Power Plant to cease delivery of electrical energy and order the Building Inspector to remove all wiring that is in violation of the Code, pursuant to Section 502 thereof. The Board ordered that the specifications for two (2) new cars for the Fire Dept. be advertised. The Police Dept was instructed to include an item in the budget for 1961 which would authorize the purchase of new radio equipment to be installed in order to comply with FCC requirements which become mandatory in 1963. The Fire Dept. was instructed to take the same action as outlined above as pertains to radio equipment. The Fire Dept. was authorized to purchase two (2) new radios for use in new vehicles, with the understanding that replacement chassis are to be supplied without cost when it becomes necessary to comply with new FCC requirements. It was understood that some additional costs may be involved in replacing crystals. The Board granted permission to the Boys Club to install clamp tripe brackets April 21, 1960 on parking meter posts for the purpose of displaying flags. Such brackets are to be used only on holidays and are to be installed and removed by the Boys Club. A petition for curbs and gutters for S.W. 8th St. between National Road and South West "A" street was referred to the City Engineer for study. Mayor Cutter discussed a severe dip at the intersection of S.W. 9th and 111 "A" street. The problem was referred to the City Engineer for study. A letter requesting authorization to place " Bench Ad " type benches on city sidewalks was taken under advisement. Mr. Deuker reported that he has been in contact with Mr. Ed. Brinker and Mr. Van Middlesworth regarding the improvement of N.D. street between 7th and 8th streets. Action is being undertaken to acquire the property in question by purchase rather than condemnation. The Board ordered that no parking be permitted on Main street between the hours of 3AM and 5AM and that signs to that effect be installed. They further ordered that the Street Commissioner sweep Main street between the • hours of 3AM and 5AM. Capt. Stout was directed to investigate the possibility of making a "one way" alley of that alley located just west of South 8th street between South "N" and "M" streets. The Board ordered that the owner of the Sunoco parking lot located just North of the 1st alley North of Main street between 5th and 6th streets be advised by letter that cars must be parked in such a manner as to eliminate the present condition of partiall y blocking the alley. The Board unanimously voted to accept the bid of Duncan Meters, Inc. for parking meters to be used on the North 7th street lot.
