WORKS AND SAFETY.
APRIL 14, 1960
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with
City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present, the following business
was had To Wit.
President Wilson moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with,
seconded by City Engineer Deuker.
111 The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to open
sealed bids for parking meters, one bid was received from the Duncan Parking
Meter Company of Chicago, Ill. There bid of $48.50 per meter and $2.25 for
pipe standards ( each ) was taken under advisement.
Fire Chief Klotz reported he had received complaints of dumping trash on the
City owned lot on South East Parkway off Henley Road South. The matter was
referred to Capt. Stout, with a recommendation that he have a " No Dumping"
sign installed there.
The Board approved the appointment of Ronald Bass, 25 years old, 925 South 11th
Street, on recommendation of Fire Chief Klotz, as a probationary member of the
Richmond Fire Department.
Manley Lawrence, Street Commissioner reported that some of the Streets used
for State Routes would be returned to the City for maintenance when the new
highway is completed, and many of the Streets in bad condition and will
require considerable repaving. The State Highway Department will be informed
by the Board that the streets will have to :bereturned to the City in good
condition.
Street Commissioner Lawrence reported the concrete pavement on the 20th
Century Bridge was in poor condition, and has been resurfaced with bituminous
111 asphalt.
Ralph Snavley, Weights and Measures Inspector reported he would attend the
47th annual conference of the Indiana Association of Inspectors of Weights
and Measures at Fort Wayne, Indiana, April 18, 19; and 20th.
The Board approved the installation of two canopies on Main Street, subject
to building code specifications, one at Kessler's Sport Shop, and at Lukens
Drug Store.
Don Sligar, Building Commissioner, filed his quarterly report with the Clerk,
the report shows 441 permits at an estimated cost of $989,715.97.
Building Commissioner Sligar, reported the quarterly meeting of the Board of
Electrical Examiners, was held in his office April. 6, with Earl E. Rogers,
329 South West 4th Street, passing the examination.
Francis Daniels, Dog Warden, submitted his monthly report, showing 135 calls
and 45 dogs picked up. -
Dog Warden Daniels, is in Detroit, Michigan this week ( April 13-21) taking
a weeks vacation.
