HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-07-1960 2:7/6' 73 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY April 7, 1960 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Controller Wilson presiding. The following business was had To-wit City Attorney Cecere absent. City Engineer Deuker moved the minutes of the previous meeting be dispensed with, seconded by City Controller Wilson. Mayor Roland H. Cutter and City Attorney Cecere are attending a Municipal League confreence at Indiana University, at Bloomington April 8-9th. Orvill Jones, National Road West, owner of property in Richmond Terrace, was granyed permission by the Board to have installed a 12 inch water line, at his expence under Water Works supervision to his property, in the vicinity of the midget stadium. Fire Chief Klotz reported a fire hydrant at the North East corner of the First Federal Savings and Loan Co. would have to be moved as it was hazardous to traffic using the alley back of the Post Office. A new set of Departmental rules and regulations for the Fireman has been completed, and Chief Klotz said they would be given to City Attorney Cecere for study, before giving individual copies to the Firemen. Dwane Kinyon, representing the Joseph H. Hill farms, that border on the New Paris Pike, reported debris and papers, blowing onto the farm property from the DeBolt dump. Mr. Kinyon was informed by the Board that steps were being taken to halt dumpingwthere,, \and the dump is to be covered by dirt. The Board approved a request for a curb cut at 611 South 22nd street, by Palmer A. Sponsler, for a private driveway. W.F.Brandenburg was granted permission to have a canopy, prefabricated by the Pittsburg Plate Glass Co. installed at 409 Main Street, subject to build:. ing code specifications. Capt. Stout, Traffic, reported he has made a 3 day traffic count at South 4th and "A" Street, for the possible need of a signal light there. Capt. Stout said that in his opinion a traffic signal was not needed there at the present time, but to aid traffic moving South, he recommended the removing of[ two parking meters immediately North of "A" Street on the West side, as parked cars block the vision of South bound motorists from cars coming from West. Capt. Stout, also recommended to the Board that they study the possibility of widening the Street on South "A" between 4th and 5th Streets. The Board approved Capt. Stouts recommendation to restrict parking on the South side of the 900 Block on North "G" street, a distance of approx. 125 ft. East from 9th. There being no further business , the meeting adjourned.
