BOARD OF PUBLIC W0RKS AND SAFETY \ January 28,1960 \, 1 Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall, with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The following business was had To- Wit. The Clerk presented proofs of publication showing this date had been set to receive bids for two (2) 1960 automobiles for the use of the Police Department. The proofs were accepted and ordered filed. The following bids were received. Raper Plymouth 57 Chev. Trade in $1897.50 Ply. • Raper Plymouth 57 Ford Trade in $1897.50 Ply. Kurdys Chevrolet 57 Chev. Trade in $1680.07 Chev. Kurdys Chevrolet 57 Chev. Trade in $ 1726.47 Chev. City Engineer Deuker, moved the bids be taken under advisement to study specifications, seconded by City Controller Wilson. Mr. Townsend of the installation of canopys at 1500 North "E" and 430 Main St. The plans meeting building code specifications, the request was granted. • Mayor Cutter read a letter from the United Fund Inc. of Wayne County, stating a porch light program is being planned March 8, 1960 to carry the drive over "the top. The Mayor said the drive would have the cooperation of the Police and Fire Department. The Board moved to explore. a solution to rid the City of birds, but also reminded the property owners that cleaning the •sidewalks is their responsibility. Buildings Commissioner Sligar presented proofs of publication and posting, showing this date had been set to receive bids for the demolition of the building at 1134 Sheridan St. , further the Commissioner served the owner Lorena Dunham with a copy to bidders 7" days prior to date of fixed notice for bids. Bids were received from the following. Charles H.Harmon, Lawrence Cox and Ford Roan. Commissioner Sligar presented proofs of publication and posting, showing this date • had been set to receive bids for the demolition of the building at 408 North 15th Street, further the Commissioner served the owner Ethel Gibson with a copy to bidders 7 days prior to date of fixed notice for bids. Bids received from the following: Henry L. Owens; Charles H. Harmon, Lawrence Cox and Ford 0. Roan. City Engineer Deuker moved to take the bids under advisement, seconded by City , Attorney Cecere. J . A petition for a street light was presented "from the residents in the'vicinity of Gardner and Harris Street. The light to be installed at theEast end of Gardner St. The petition was referred to the MEL & PP for anestimate. The Clerk read a letter from the Wayne Works petitioning more street lighting on North 15th St. between "F" and "G" St. referred to the MEL & PP for recommendation as to location and for estimates. The Board approved Building Commissioner Sligars recommendation that the building at 1138 North "J" street be condemned, and instructed him to advertize for Public Hearing February 11, 1960.
