HomeMy Public PortalAbout01-14-1960 Wire .31 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY January 14,1960 The Board of Public works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with the City Controller presiding.All members present minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The following business was had To-Wit : The Clerk presented preoofs of publication, showing this date had been set to hear persons interested in Assessment Roll 1030-1959 , City Attorn.ey`"Cecere moved the proofs be accepted and filed, seconded by City Controller"Wilson. There being no further persons present desiring to express themselves , City Attorney Cecere moved the Assessment Roll be confirmed, seconded by City Engineer Deuker. The Clerk presented proofs of publication, showing this date had been set to receive .bids,, for a 1960 automobile for the Fire Chief. The- proofs were accepted and ordered filled. The following bids were received( considering a 1952 Buicktrade in. Kurdys Chevrolet Inc. $2163.,-87 .(Chevrolet) E.W.Parrish & Sons -- 2105.67 (Nash Rambler) Dea Meadows Ford Sales 2087.40 (Ford) City Attorney.:Cecere- moved the bids be taken under advisement , seconded by City. Engineer Deuker. . : Karl J. Kolger, Attorney, representing a group of people living near the Richmond Race Track , appeared before the Board with a complaint of the excessive noise created by the running of the cars called "Go Carts". The- Board ask Mr. Kolger to confer with Mr. Hoff maker of these cars, to find a solution. The Clerk -presented proofs of publication showing this date had been set to hear persons interested in Assessment Roll 1025 1959. City Attorney Cecere moved the proofs be accepted and filed, seconded by City -Controller .Wilson.- The Board; ask .if there were. any remonstrators against the Roll. Mr. Russell Sch ussler, Attorney , presented a written remonstrance on behalf of property owners-, Frank Hodgin , Zadelle Hodgin Ruth Hartley-, Robert Hodgin, Violet Hodgin and Elizabeth Jean Hodgin, which remonstrance is incorporated herein and made a part hereof. - There being no other remonstrators, and after a discussion by the Board , and after said hearing , City Attorney Cecere moved that the Board sustain in whole the prima facie Assessment as indicated on said Roll, by confirming the Assessment against all lots in said assessment Ro111025-1959 §econded by City Controller Wilson. John Tiffany, restaurant inspector Pro-Tem reported that Don's Lunch 21 South 6th Street was closed for not having a permit, all other restaurants have been licensed. City Engineer Deuker, presented a map , showing an entrance to the Rice monument building at the intersection close to Silver Point ,the Board recommended that the entrance be moved farther South from the intersection. The Board instructed the Street Department to make passable South "B" Street between the Henley Road and 31st Street. The Board granted permission to Bert Russell to have a building moved from 931 South 9th St. to 911 South 10th St . Park Supt. MCBride , reported that heavy trucks were entering Glen Miller Park from "E" St. Capt. Stout said he would install the necessary signs to route the trucks ,South--.on, 22nd Street. _ _ - Street Commissioner , appeared before the Board to cite the need of another Street sweeper. City Attorney Cecere moved to introduce an Ordinance to Common Council to transfer $14,000.00 from the Street Dept. General Fund to Street Dept (other equipment) to purchase a new Street sweeper. City Attorney Cecere moved to advertise for bids for the construction of a sanitary sewer in the vicinity of the Elks Country Club Road, seconded by City Engineer Deuker. 7 The Board moved that DeBolt Concrete Co. be awarded the contract to construct a sanitary sewer in the vicinity of No. West "L" & 5th St. At their bid $33 ,758. 50. The following complaints received from Common Council were referred to the Street Dept . Bad condition of sidewalks between "E" & "F" on North 13th Street , andlarge holes in the Street on South "B" East of Parkway. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
