HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-23-1959 THE BOARD OF WORKS AND SAFETY DECEMBER 23, 1959 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. Minutes dispensed with. The following business was had To-Wit. The Clerk presented proofs of publication showing ,this date had been set to receive bids for the construction of curbs, gutters and sidewalks on South West F Street,between South West Ist and 11 abington Pike , as authorized by Improvement Resolution No.I035- 1959. The proofs were accepted and filed. One bid was received for $7250.40, from Robinson Bros , City Engineer Deuker moved the bid be taken under advisement , seconded by Controller Wilson. The Board approved Assessment Rolls No.I025 and I030 , 1959,and instructed the Clerk to advertise a date for public hearing ( January 14, 1960) . Frank DeVito, from the laundry-mat at North 19th and "E" Street. appeared before the Board and asked for a traffic study at this location, the problem was referred to Lt. Stout. J.W. Rose, engineer for Texaco, Inc . appeared before the Board with plans of a proposed service station at South 9th and J Sts. Mr. Rose asked for 2 curb cuts on 9th and 2 cuts J Sts. Mf . 30te in width. City Engineer Deuker moved to approve the cuts. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. Fire Chief Klotz reported on his investigation of Hose House No.4 for the purpose of using the second floor for public assembly, Chief Klotz said, that in his opinion the installation of a fire escape , provided by James Rendel, Boy's Club Counselor, making a second means of exit would meetthe State Fire Marshalls approval. The Board moved to approve the escape to be installed by Mr. Rendel under Chief Klotz 's supervision. Chief Klotz reported that the dump at DeBolts had broken out with fire from underneath again, and that he was considering having DeBolts men dynamite the dump , so as to bring the fire out into the open. Fire Chief Klotz , citeddthe need for 3 new cars for the department a Chief 's car, an assistant Chief' s car and one for a Battalion Chief , with a Battalion Chief being assigned the Chief' S Station Wagon. The Board approved the recommendation, and will advertise for bids for the Chief's car as soon as possible. Specifications considered. There not being enough funds in the budget for all the cars , the Board will prepare an Ordinance to present to Council for the appropriation of additional funds. The Clerk read a letter from Mrs.Lawrence Vosmeier, 2013 Commons Road , reporting damage in the amount of 512.00 was caused to her car, by a loose slab of concrete curb , the Board referred the matter to Wilson for disposition. Lt. Stout , Traffic , attended the Board Meeting with Mr. Darrell Sheffer of the bus company, with drawings of parking areas and bus stops from 4th to Ilth on Main Street , and from North A on to South A on 8th and 9th Sts. The Board approved the Plans as set forth . Lt. Stout , made a survey of the traffic conditions in the 800 Bik. of South E Street. and recommended no parking in the block , with through and turn lanes be installed. The Board approved the recommendation. The Board approved the recommendation of Lt. Stout , to move the bus stop from the Northeast side of I6th street to the Northwest side , so as not to interrupt through traffic turning North to A St. Lt.
