HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-17-1959 ?dye 67 BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY DECEMBER 17, 1959 The Board of Public Works met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. City Attorney Cecere was absent. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The following business was had to-wit: Mayor Roland H. Cutter today appointed Fred Klotz , Fire Department Instructor, to the Office of Fire Chief to fill the vacancy, caused by the untimely passing of Leslie L. Williams. Captain Melvern Price was named assistant. Chief. In the alignment of jobs , two posts were abolished, the deputy chief and that of the department instructor, and two posts created and iiey will be known as Battalion Chiefs. Chief Klotz immediately recommended Roland Miller and Harry Robinson to fill these posts. Mayor Cutter said that Chief Klotz and assistant Chief Price would be in complete charge of the administration. Personnel , and instruction of the department and also, suggested that the salary schedule for the assistant fire chief be the same as for the assistant police chief. Roland House commanding officer of the civil air patrol ,. and James Rendel work counselor of the boys club appeared before the board on behalf of their respective groups , to try to find a solution to their problem of not being able to use the second floor of No. 4 Hose House as their meeting place , as per the State Marshalls re- commendation that the building cannot be used for public assembly. Fire Chief Klotz will make a check of the building and report his findings to the Board. Two -bids were received for the construction of a sanitary sewer in the vicinity of Northwset L and 5th Streets. Improvement Resolution 1034-1959 Ralph Reed & Son , Inc. Anderson, Indiana S36,55$.$5 De Bolt Concrete Co. Inc. Richmond, Indiana- 33 ,758. 50 Bids were taken under advisement. Police Chief Mitrione presented a sehedule revising the working hours of the Police Department to the Board, requesting to start the new plan January I , I960. The Board moved to adopt the schedule on a trial basis , Chief Mitrione is to give a monthly report on loss time for the department. William E. Ross, sanitary district , appeared at the board meeting and reported that the new sanitary land fill was now in operation, and that the land fill at DeBolts was closed. The Board approved a telephone booth , to be installed by the telephone company on the west side of South 8th street in the 500 block ,booth to be at least 20 feet from the intersection of E street. The Board approved a petition for a curb cut by James L. Cross, at his expense , at 803 South West First , for a I2 ft. private drive. The Board approved a petition for a curb cut 40 ft. wide , for a drive- way to off Street parking and factory entrance, by John Doddridge , Inc. and Richmond Casket Shell, Inc. Work to be done at petitioners expense , by Dailey Construction Co. in the 600 Block on South J Street. There being no further business, the meeti djourneo'CqZ,a,/ President Attest:
