HomeMy Public PortalAbout12-03-1959 Page 4$ THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY December 3 , 1959 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. Minutes dispensed with. Following business was had To-Wit; The Traffic Dept. recommended that parking immediately west of the intersection of 17th & Main, south side , be prohibited. This being 11 two Parking spaces. The Board unanimously approved this recommendation. and asked the Traffic Dept. to study the possibility of making So. 17th IIStreet a one way street from Main Street to South "A". Lt. Walter Stout , Traffic , reported that overhead signs were being installed on East Main at lath Street to advise motorists of the car by-pass turning at 16th & Main. ' Mr. Motsinger, Standard Oil Company , discussed with the Board curb cuts at So. 9th and "L" and So , 9th and Parry at the site of a new Filling Station. He was asked to prepare a cross-section view of the entrances for the Board to study. . The Clerk presented proofs of publication showing this date had been set to hear persons interested in Improvement Resolution No. 1035-1959 (curbs, gutters and sidewalks on So. "F" between S.W. lst & Abington Pike) . The proofs were accepted and ordered filed . The City Engineer reported that 15 of the 29 resident property owners had signed the petition for this improvement. The following persons spoke in favor of the improvement : Willie Clark , Leslie Philhower, Lloyd Miller, Lem McNutt. An objecting letter from Mrs. Robert Conner was read. City Attorney Cerere moved the Resolution be confirmed. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for bids to be received on December 23 , 1959. City Controller Wilson moved that the bid of Dea Meadows for $1529.00 IIfor erne 1960 Falcon for the Bureau of Buildings be accepted. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Fire Chief Williams reported he had checked the incinerator at the rear of the Ravinia Plaza Shopping Center and found that it had been moved from the buildings and thus eliminated a fire hazard. The Clerk was instructed to write to the manager of the Richmond Feed & Grain Co. at 700 N. ath St. ,- asking him to appear before the Board at their meeting of December 10 , 1959. City Engineer Deuker reported that he had been in contact with Mr. Bill • Shoemaker , Richmond Water Works , but had been unable to arrange a meeting to discuss Fire Protection for South Richmond because of the illness of Mr. Shoemaker. The City Engineer was asked to arrange a • meeting as soon as possible for this discussion. ,' The Clerk read a letter from Mr. H. E. Bodine , State Highway Dept. advising the Board that Representatives of his Dept. would meet with the members of the Board of Public Works & Safety during the week of December 6, 1959. The Board gave permission for the Wayne County Tuberculosis Ass'n. to park the Mobile X-Ray Unit on the North side of Main Street , West of II the 15 minute parking meters , west of 7th Street , the week of December 6th for 5 days. The Clerk read a letter from the Commissioner of Buildings condemning the barn at the rear of 25-27 N. 19th St. The letter was ordered filled. A letter from Councilman Hoskins telling of a stopped-up sewer opening at the N.E. corner of Sheridan and N.W. "J" was referred to the Street Department. A Petition for a fire hydrant at the intersection of Ross and Vine St . was referred to the City Engineer and Fire Chief for study and recommendation. The Board ordered a fire hydrant installed on the Home Show grounds for training of Fireman. City Engineer Dueker moved that assessment roll 1026-1959 be approved. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. It was announced by the Board that the meeting of December 24th would be held December 23 , 1959 There being no further business the meeting was adjourned. President Attest;° /a,/}-e, Clerk 7
