WATERTOWN-MA. G OVI (lb Watertown Summer Concerts 2014 The Town of Watertown is once again sponsoring a summer of free outdoor music on Thursday evenings in Saltonstall Park. Concerts begin at 6:30 PM and end at 8:00 PM. Dine al fresco with your family, friends and neighbors, bring your lawn chairs and blankets, and if the spirit moves you, get up and dance. Rain will not dampen musical spirits, as the music will move indoors to the designated rain venue. For rain information, call 617-972-6431 after 4:30 PM on concert day. http://www.watertown-ma.gov/ June 26 Mark the end of the school year with Paul Rudnick at a children's concert, sponsored by the Watertown Family Network. This concert plays from 6:30-7:30 PM. Rain venue: Watertown Public Library. July 10 Pabon Salsa brings the Latin beat to Watertown. If you've always wanted to salsa, Edwin Pabon would love to teach you how. (You know you want to do it.) Rain venue: Watertown Public Library. July 17 Swing over to Swing Cafe, an acoustic swing, gypsy jazz, and rockabilly band that plays popular music from the 1930's, 40's and 50's. With its eclectic instrumentation (mandolin, woodwinds, guitar bass and drums), superb musicianship, and entertaining vocals, the band has delighted audiences all over New England. Rain venue: Watertown Middle School. July 24 Juke Joint Five promises down home, old school, no-nonsense, house- (or park-) rocking, kickass electric blues. Rain venue: Watertown Middle School. July 31 Five young singers present a sampler of their unique individual styles in a Ja z z Singer Showcase, backed by the Dan Fox/Joe Reid Trio. Come meet them: • Heather Thomas, who writes some of her own material and sings in a style reminiscent of Billie Holliday; • Paula O'Sullivan, who sings groovy stuff like Unchain My Heart and does jazzy covers; • Steve Smith, a veteran singer in the style of Frank Sinatra; • Dayna Brown, an amazing young, upcoming singer; • Bob DiCicco, a Great American songbook singer who performs a lot of Tony Bennett. Rain venue: Watertown Public Library. August 7 It's the Tom Nutile Big Band. So you think you can dance? Toe tapping and head bobbing also permitted. Rain venue: Watertown Public Library. August 14 The summer series closes with a Watertown favorite, as The Love Dogs hit Saltonstall Park. Expect a little blues, a little swing, and a little everything else.
