Friday, July 25, 1958 • • The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in the City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. City Attorney Cecere absent. The reading of the minutes of the previous meeting dispensed with. The following business was had, to-wit: • Mr. George Borton, Commons Lumber Company, asked the Board for fire protection for South 27th Street between Reeveston Road and South "B" Street. This was referred to the Fire Chief for study and recommendation. The Clerk presented- a petition for paving the first alley west ofgNW 13th from West Main Street north to NW "B" Street. This was referred to the City Engineer. Police Chief Mitrione recommended the appointment of Donald C. Roosa, age 29, 14.00 S. 8th Street, as a probationery patrolman, with the one year probationery period to begin July 29, 1958. City Controller Wilson moved this appointment be made. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. The Building Inspector reported that Mr. George Dixon, owner of 818-820 South 9th Street, had not complied, with his condemnation order of June 17, 1958. The Board instructed the Building Inspector to proceed with the next step inLthe condemnation procedure. • The Clerk told the Board that Councilman 1"larino had asked for an investigation of the Parking ban on Richmond Avenue from Sedgewick Street to NH 9th Street. _ This was referred to the Traffic Division for investigation and report. Also, the Traffic Division was asked to investigate the report of heavy trucks going to Johns-Manville using City streets instead of State Routes. _The Board received a report from the Fire Chief regarding the open basement at 825-827 South 11th Street. The Board was advised that Mr. Everett Gilmer; 1400 South 23rd Street, was the owner and had done no work at this building site in several years. The Building inspector was ordered to have Mr. Gilmer either cover or fill the basement and the Clerk was instructed to send a notice for Mr. Gilmer to cut the weeds at this location. The Board approved a curb cut at 426 NW "J" Street. ;- There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. President Attest: Clerk
