THE READING OF THE MINUTES OF THE PREVIOUS MEETING DISPENSED WITH. THE FOLLOWING BUSINESS WAS HAD, TO-WIT; THE CLERK PRESENTED PROOFS OF PUBLICATION SHOWING THAT TH IS-- DATE HAD BEEN - SET TO RECEIVE BIDS FOR IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION 1015-1958. THE PROOFS WERE OR- DERED FILED,D. THE FOLLOWING BIDS WERE OPENED . AND READ; ' DEBOLT CONCRETE CO. $14,070. 10 ROBINSON BROTHERS 12,013.75 CITY CONTROLLER WILSON MOVED THE BIDS- BE TAKEN UNDER ADVISEMENT. SECONDED BY CITY ENGINEER DEUKER. . THE CLERK PRESENTED PROOFS OF PUBLICATION SHOWING THAT THIS DATE HAD BEEN SET TO RECEIVE BIDS FOR IMPROVEMENT RESOLUTION 1016-1958. THE PROOFS WERE ORDERED FILED. NO BIDS WERE RECEIVED. THE CLERK PRESENTED PROOFS OF- PUBLICATION SHOWING THIS. DATE HAD BEEN SET .TO HEAR PERSONS INTERESTED IN OR EFFECTED BY DECLARATORY RESOLUTION 8.-19584, THE PROOFS WERE ORDERED FILED. NO PERSONS APPEARED' WND NO REMONSTRANCES OR OBJECTIONS' WERE FILED. CITY ATTORNEY CECERE MOVED THAT THIS DECLARATORY RE- SOLUTION BE CONFIRMED. SECONDED BY' CITY CONTROLLER WILSON. UNANIMOUS.. MR. TOWNSEND APPEARED AND ASKED FOR BOARD APPROVAL FOR THE INSTALLATION OF AN ALUMINUM CANOPY AT -708 MAIN STREET. HE WAS TOLD. TO SECURE A PERMIT FROM THE OFFICE OF THE CITY ENGINEER AND TO PROCEED ACCORDING TO PROCEDURE. • CITY ATTORNEY" CECERE MOVED THAT" 5 MEN FROM THE FIRE DEPT. BE SENT TO PURDUE ON DUNE 4,5 PND' 6, 1958, TO ATTEND THE ' INDUSTRIAL FIRE SCHOOL. SECONDED BY - CITY CONTROLLER WILSON. . FIRE CHIEF WILLIAMS SHOWED THE BOARD PICTURES OF DEBRIS AND TRASH THAT HAD BEEN LEFT AT 731 NORTH 12TH STREET WHEN THE- BUILDING HAD BEEN RAZED SOME MONTHS AGO. HE SAID ATTEMPTS TO `HAVE'-'THI,S_ CLEANED UP HAD FAILE-D. HE WAS ORDERED BY THE BOARD TO PREPARE A WARRANT FOR ARREST OF THE PERSON RESPON- SIBLE . THE FIRE CHIEF ALSO- SHOWED PICTURES- Of THE 'DEBRIS- LEFT'`' WHEN` THE BRICK. BUILD- I NGS AT SOUTH 9TH & "E" WERE RECENTLY RAZED. THE MAYOR -'SAID HE WOULD CON- - TACT. THE OWNER OF THESE LOTS TO GET. THEM CLEANED UP. THE BOARD SAID HE WOULD BE PROSECUTED IF HE DID' NOT COMPLY IN A `-REASONABLE TIME. IT WAS REPORTED BY THE FIRE CH IEF -THAT 'THE ROAD AT- NORTH 101TH AND °.1 . WAS- PRACTICALLY IMPASSABLE DUE TO THE WORK BEING DONE. HE SAID IT SHOULD BE MADE SAFE FOR CARS AND -EMERGENCY VEHICLES. THE CLERK WAS INSTRUCTED TO CON- TACT THE CONTRACTOR AND ASK HIM TO TAKE CARE OF THIS MATTER. CITY ATTORNEY CECERE MOVED THAT HOURLY PAID WORKERS OF' THE• CIVIL CITY BE PAID THEIR REGULAR RATE OF PAY FOR AN 8 HOUR DAY FOR THE FOLLOWING HOLIDAYS; TO-WIT; NEW YEARS, MEMORIAL DAY., 4TH OF JULY, LABOR DAY , THANKSGIVING AND - CHRISTMANS. THIS TO BE EFFECTIVE MAY 29, 1958. SECONDED BY CITY CONTROLLER WILSON. IT WAS RECOMMENDED BY 'LT. STOUT, TRAFFIC DIVISION, THAT THE CURB ON- THE EAST SIDE OF NORTH I6TH BETWEEN MAIN AND-"THE FIRST ALLEY , BE MOVED BACK TO THE • SIDEWALK AND THAT PARKING BE REMOVED FROM' THE WEST SIDE Of THE STREET TO THE EAST SIDE. HE INFORMED THE BOARD THAT' TN ERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM AVAILABLE FOR THIS TO BE DONE AND THAT- IT WOULD AID THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC FROM MAIN TO NORTH "A" STREET. CITY ATTORNEY CECERE MOVED THAT THE, CITY ENGINEER PREPARE PLANS FOR MOVING THE CURB ON BOTH'-SIDES OF- NORTH I6TH STREET FROM MAIN TO THEII ALLEY NORTH. THE BOARD UNANIMOUSLY APPROVED THE INSTALLATION OF 2 HOUR- PARKING METERS ON THE EAST SIDE OF SOUTH 8TH STREET' FROM "B1° TO "C" -STREETS, AND TWO 2 HOUR METERS BE INSTALLED ON NORTH 8TH STREET BETWEEN THE RAILROAD AND THE CAFE NAPOLI . 1 2 3 ' MR'.' DON BELL INFORMED THE BOARD THAT A RECENT INVENTORY SHOWED THE CITY - ' DID' NOT' HAVE ADEQUATE INSURANCE 'TO COVER REPLACEMENT OF PRESENT EQUIP-. MENT AND' FACILITIES AND THAT ADDITIONAL PREMIUMS WOULD BE REQUIRED WHEN . PRESENT POLICIES BECOME WE. THE CLERK TURNED OVER TO THE BOARD THE RESOLUTION ADOPTED BY THE DIRECTORS ' OF THE MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC LIGHTING AND POWER PLANT IN WHICH THREE APPRAI� SERS VALUED THE LIGHT PLANT PROPERTY NEED FOR THE RELOCATION OF U.S. 27 AT $19,500.00. THE CLERK WAS INSTRUCTED TO TURN THIS OVER TO THE CITY ENGINEER WITH INSTRUCTIONS TO CONTACT THE STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT ABOUT THIS PROPERTI(. THE FOLLOWING LETTERS FROM THE BUILDING INSPECTOR' WERE READ; FAULKNER PRO— PERTIES AT 1200 AND 1201 ' SOUTH 4TH STREET, AND- THE DWELLING ON REAR OF THE LOT 'AT 14471 RIDGE STREET. THE' LETTERS SHOWED THESE BUILDINGS WERE IN • VIOLATION OF ZONING LAWS ANC IN GENERAL, NOT FIT- FOR HUMAN HABITATION. THE BOARD CONCURRED AND INSTRUCTED THE CLERK TO NOTIFY THE BUILDING IN SPECTOR TO INITIATE CONDEMNATION PROCEEDINGS. COPIES OF LETTERS WRITTEN BY THE BUILDING I'NSPECTOR 'REGARDING THE RE— LIANCE FOUNDRY ON NORTH 8TH STREET AND THE PROPERTY AT 310 NORTH- 15TH WERE READ AND ORDERED FILED. - - - t .. - THERE BEING NO FURTHER BUSINESS, THE MEETING ADJOURNED.
