'OFFICE OF TEE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHHOND, INDI a Nk Friday, March 21, 1958 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members were present. Reading of the minutes of the previous meeting dispensed with. The following business was had, to-wit: City Engineer Deuker was instructed by the Board to contact Mr. Vermillion, State Highway Dept. , regarding the status of prior requests to make 8th Street one way south from North` "C" to South "E", and 9th Street one way north from South "E" to North "C". City Attorney Cecere moved the Standard Oil Company requests for curb cuts at West 5th and Main be approved subject to approval of the State Highway Dept. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Ralph B. Wynn, Fireman, submitted his resignation effective April 1, 1958, after 25 years and 31 days of continuous service, and asked. for disability retirement. City Attorney Cecere moved his resignation be accepted and a letter- of appreciation written to MIr. Wynn. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. The Board approved the salt of salt water taffy on the downtown streets on March 29, 1958, by boys from the YMCA. .The Mayor presented a request for use of City owned property for gardens for people- who are out of work. The Board thought this a good ides, but knew of no land suitable. The Board read a letter from the Trustees of the Church of God, 1018 Parry Street, asking for materials from Starr School for use in their church. This letter referred to the Park Commissioner as said school will be razed under his direction. Police Chief Mitrione reported to the Board that Alberta Moelk had, as of March 18, 1958, served'her year as probationary Police Matron, and he 'was recommending she be made a regular Police Matron as of that date. City Controller Wilson so moved. Second- ed by City Engineer Deuker. It was recommended by the Traffic Division that the NE corner of West 5th and Main be cut back as far as possible to make it easier for trucks to turn north at this corner. Also, that the obedience line for south bound traffic on NW 5th be moved north to allow room for said trucks to turn. These recommendations approved by Board. The Traffic Division also suggested a delayed signal be installed at NH 5th and Pea- . cock to allow better flow of traffic, or else a traffic light be installed at NW 5th and Peacock to take care of some of the traffic that now goes to Ng 5th & Richmond Ave. Lt. .Stout was instructed to make a survey of these corners and to report back to the Board. The Traffic Division reported it was not recommending two hour parking on South "H'' between 7th & 8th Streets. City Attorney Cecere moved the Board concurr with these findings and that no further action be taken on this matter. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Jerry Witmer, General Chairman of the 1958 OptimDerby; requested permission to use North "E" Street from 20th to Glen Miller Park, on July 27, 1958 for the running of the annual Opti-Derby. City Attorney Cecere moved premission be granted. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk read a letter from the Building Inspector on the status of the condemnation of buildings at 602, 791, and 835-837 North 12th St. The Clerk was instructed to have the Building Inspector follow up on these cases and to check the property at the NH corner of Ft. Wayne avenue and North "D" to see if it should be condemned. City Controller Wilson reported that parking meters from around the Court House were 111 being installed on Main Street. The Board approved a curb cut at 1125 Hunt Street.
