The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall
with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. 41i "utes dis-
pensed with. The following business -was had, to-wit; •
The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to
receive bids for a 1958 truck, cab and chassis for the St. Dept. The proof
ware ordered filed„ The following bids were received and read:
Kurdys Chevrolet 3445.00
Dea Meadows Ford 3261.54
Bowens Inc-GMO 4050.00
City Controller Wilson moved the bids be taken under advisement. Seconded
by City Engineer Deuker.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been .set to
receive bids on a street Sweeper for the Street Dept. The proofs were
ordered filed. The following bids were received and read;

City Engineer Deuker moved the bids be taken under advisement.Seconded
by City Controller Wilson.
Jack Turnbaugh, Richmond School City, presented a petition for the va-
cation of a portion of an alley lying east of NW 3rd St. between Lincoln
& Randolph, and an alley lying east of NW 3rd and North of Lincoln Street
for the construction of a new Baxter school.CTh_e City Engineer was in-
structed to originate the procedure for said vacation.
Lt. Stout reported that the Police Dept. had investigated the repair of
autos on a City street at 820 North 18th and found no activity of that
nature going on.
Lt. Stout recommended the following: Install STOP signs at NW "L" and
making NW "L" the stop street; removing 6:00 AM to 6:s0OPM parking re-
strictions on the west side of the 1400 block of Hunt Street; the11
establishment of a 25 ' loading and unloading zone on Elm Place for use
by. the Salvation Army store on North 8th St. , and the placing of a
Press and Radio parking space in the North 5th St parking lot. City En-
gineer Deuker moved the above recommendations be approved. Seconded by
City Controller Wilson.
Mr. Firth was told by the Board that the City was not interested in his
property on North 6th St. for off-street parking. The Boad told him they
might be interested at a later date.

The Board received a letter from Lester D.Retherford, Captain, Aerial
Truck, applying for disability retirement as of March 1, 1958. City Con-
troller Nilson moved his resignation be accepted and a letter of ap-
preciation be written. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker.

The Board received a letter from Paul D.Smith, Deputy Director, Wayne Cty.
Civil Defense, saying that a committee, under C.D. leadership, has been
gathering information for a solution of the problem of emergency ambulance
service in the County, and that said committee would like to present
their findings to the Board on Feb. 28, 1958. . The Board welcomed this
committee and its report.
Oity Controller Wilson presented- a letter from George Young, Traffic
Signal Engineer, State Highway Dept. , advising the Board that the State
would replace parts used by the City for repair of traffic signals and
that the State was preparing a contract with the City for maintenance of
traffic signals on State routes.
The Clerk presented an estimate from the Light Plant for changing amber
lenses in all traffic lights in the city to red and for changing the
controls for traffic lights during emergency runs. Said estiamte, for
83,300.58 to be held until an agreement with the State for maintenance
of traffic lights is received.

The City Engineer presented a bill for $1.00 from the Pennsylvania R.R.
for a right-of-way through their property for the Glen Hills sewer. This
was ordered paid.
City Engineer Deuker reported on his study and investigation regarding
the property on South 8th Street that is adjacent to the right-of-way
for the relocated U.S. 27. He said he had received a letter from the
State Fire Marshall saying that that office would not approve relor
• cation of a bulk oil storage plant within the City limits . Mr. Deuker
also said he had attended a meeting of the Park Board and discussed
with them the park area to be taken by new US 27. The Park Board said
they were unlikely to use the area on South 8th St. , south of "N", for ,
park purposes after the new road is built, and that they would like to
have an area equal to, or more than, the present area for park purposes
in the southern parl of the City. The City Engineer was instructed to
contact the State Right-of-way Department and advise them of the in-
terest of the City in that area.
