RESOLUTION NO. 23-239
RESOLUTION TO APPROVE BALLOT LANGUAGE
At a meeting of the Township Board for the Charter Township of Cooper, Kalamazoo
County, Michigan, held on the 31st day of January, 2023.

The following resolution was offered by __________ and supported by ___________.
WHEREAS, Act 33 of 1951 authorizes the Township to establish a special assessment
district to defray the cost of maintaining and operating police and fire departments and equipment
(or defray the cost of contracting for those services); and
WHEREAS, Act 368 of 1978 authorizes the Township to operate an ambulance operation
or a nontransport prehospital life support operation, or contract for those service, and to defray the
costs by special assessment following the procedure set forth in Act 33 of 1951; and
WHEREAS, the Township desires to place the question of a special assessment on the
ballot at the May 2, 2023 election, and approve ballot language for submission to the County Clerk.
NOW, THEREFORE, the Township Board of the Township of Cooper, Kalamazoo
County, Michigan resolves as follows:
1. The Township Board approves and shall submit the following ballot question to the
Kalamazoo County Clerk for the purpose of submitting such ballot question to the electors of the
Charter Township of Cooper at the May 2, 2023 election:

Shall Cooper Charter Township establish a township wide special
assessment district to defray the cost of providing emergency services,
including fire protection, pursuant to Act 33 of 1951?

2. The Township Clerk shall promptly certify and submit this resolution to the
Kalamazoo County Clerk no later than February 7, 2023, at 4:00 P.M., so that the proposal may
be included on the ballot in the May 2, 2023 election.
3. Any resolutions that are inconsistent with this Resolution are hereby repealed to the
extent necessary to give this Resolution full force and effect.
