HomeMy Public PortalAboutOrdinance 00:21 AN ORDINANCE AUTHORIZING THE CLOSURE OF A PORTION OF COOKE AVENUE WHEREAS, Cooke Avenue is a roadway in the Borough of Carteret (the"Borough") which is currently open to vehicular traffic; and WHEREAS, The Borough has undertaken the construction of a Library and Senior Citizen Center on properties to Cooke Avenue Between Blanchard Street and Pershing Avenue, as part of the Borough's plan to create a"Town Center" and WHEREAS, an important element to the "Town Center" concept is the creation of a pedestrian walkway; and WHEREAS, The Carteret Borough Hall is located adjacent to Cooke Avenue opposite the referenced Library and Senior Center; and WHEREAS, The Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret have considered thc impact to traffic in the Borough and have determined that the closure of a portion of Cooke Avenue between Blanchard Street and Pershing Avenue, to facilitate a pedestrian walkway is in the best interest of the community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of the Borough of Carteret that the portion of Cooke Avenue situated between Blanchard Street and Pershing Avenue henceforth shall be closed to vehicular traffic. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that there shall be created upon the closed portion of the Cooke Avenue roadway a pedestrian access way to the Borough Hall and Borough Library and Senior Center located adjacent thereto. BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that any ordinances of the Borough of Carteret which are inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.' BE IT FURTHER ORDAINED, that this Ordinance shall take effect immediately.
