FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 29, 1957 The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The minutes of the previous meeting dispended with. The following business was had, to-wit; Residents in the vicinity of the Haven Rest Home, 322 N. lOt , St., complained to the Board about the offensive odors caused by the burning of trash and refuse by said Rest Home. This matter referred to the Sanitary Inspector who is to get an inspector from the State and make an investigation and report back to the board. Mr, Ervine Smith, 4.00 SW 3rd St. , complained to the Board that there were some fireman who were working at jobs during their off days and keeping some of the unemployed from working. The Mayor said he was not sure that the City, as an employeer, could tell their employees what to do when they were not working for the City. He pointed out, however, that a fireman or policeman who on call 24 hours a day and should not do any sort of work that Would interfer with his ability to do his City job at full efficiency. The Fire Chief said he would make a survey of his fireman as to their off duty jobs and report back to the Board. • City Attorney Cecere moved that "STOB" signs be installed as follows; South 10th and "C" St, making 10th the thru street, and South 3rd And "C" St, making 3rd the thru street. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. City Attorney Cecere moved to remove two parking spaces west of the east alley, on the south side of South "G" St. in the 600 block to provide fire dept. access to the sprinkler system hook-up at the Moto-Mower. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Sgt. Stout reported that there severaLstations who had signs in the parkways in front of the stations` that were obstructing the view of motorist. He was, instructed to talk to the operators and see if the would not cooperate in removing said signs. The Board authorized a."NO. TRUCKS ALLOWED" sign to be placed at the North "E" Street entrance to Glen Miller Park. • 111 The Board authorized the parking of the mobile X®Ray unit on South 8th St. from 12-5-57 to 12-12-57. The Board granted permission for Romey's Furniture Store to hold a parade on November 30, 1957 welcoming Santa Clause to t ich_mcnd. The City Controller presented the Board with a plan to install five collection boxes on certain parking meters on Main Street to aid motorists who have a meter violation to pay their fines. This was taken under advisement. City Controller Wilson moved the following schedule of fines be adopted: • For parking meter violation $1.00 For parking in alleys,yellow curbs, fire hydrants & other improper parking $2.00 Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. The Board revised and approved the MEL & PP plans for installing street lights on South 21st St South of "G" and in the Harvey Place addition. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
