FRIDAY,' SEPTEMBER. 6, 1957 The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. Minutes dispensed with. The following business was had, to wit; The Clerk read a letter from Councilwomen Hoskins presenting a plan to aid school children crossing at Harris St & NW "K". This was referred to the Traffic °fficer for study and recommendation. III The Clerktas instructed to set a hearing date on Assesment Rolls 1006-1956(Alley between S.14th & 15th from "D" to` "E") and 1012..1957 (Sanitary sewer between North 15th & 16th, from "G" St. north to the river). Assistant Fire Chief Robinson reported that Fire Chief Williams would be at his desk for a few hours daily starting' September 9th. City Attorney Cecere moved that Asst.Fire Chief Robinson azd Instructor Klotz be author- ized to attend the Indiana State Fire School at Purdue on September 10,11,12 and 13.1957. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. City Attorney Cecere moved that ohe parking meter be removed from between 1115 E.Main and 1107 E.Main,and the remaining meter be relocated so as to allow better access to the drive- ways located at these businesses. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Board unaminously approved the following recommendations of the Traffic Officer, Sgt. Walter Stout: Install a STOP sign at South 23rd and "A" to make westbound traffic on "A" stop. Mark parking spaces around the Post Office and install larger signs for Post Office ' partrons. Do not install STOP Signsat the intersection of SW let and "D" St-a survey showed this corner not used by Joseph Moore pupils enough to warrant stopping traffic. IIICity Engineer Dueker moved to allow the widening of the driveways to 300 widths on north 7th Street, east side, between North "A" and' the first alley south. Seconded by City Con- toiler Wilson. ' Mayor Cutter said he would contact the Engineer at Johns_M.anville in regard to the numerous complaints received regarding the' smoke and fumes from the plant.
