OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC
WORKS & SAFETY, RICHMOND,INDIANA
FRIDAY, AUGUST 23, 1957
The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City
Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had,
to-wit;
Minutes dispensed with.
The Clerk read a letter from Robert Johnson, asking permission for the United Fund
of Wayne County, Inc. to hold a parade in downtown Richmond on Monday, October 7,
1957 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM and to place light pole collars in the downtown area
from September 15,1957 until November 1, 1957. City Engineer Deuker moved permission
be granted both requests. Seconded by City Attorney L'ecere.
The Clerk read recommendation from the Light Plant regarding changing to more powerful
bulbs in the North 10th St. parking lot. City Attorney Cecere moved that 150 watt bulbs
be used and they be dated so their life span can be checked. Seconded by City Controller
�`ilson.
The City Engineer reported there were two properties south of. "Q" Street and west of
the C & 0 that had access to no street, and that the owner, L.Day, was asking relief.
This request was taken under advisement until the Board makes a survey of the area.
The Board approved a curb cut on South "I" Street at Liberty Avenue for a service
station provided city specifications are followed and changes made in the cuts on
Liberty Avenue.
Rollf Wadman,Fire Department, reported that the two buildings on the, SE corner of
South 9th and "E" were open, windows broken and in a generally- bad condition. They
will be reported to the owner by Mayor Cutter to see if they can be boarded up or
torn down.
A request for a traffic light at South 4th and "A" Street was referred to the Traffic
Officer for study and recommendation.
City Controller Wilson said he had received complaints about the fumes and rock wool
coming from the smoke stack at Johns Manville. The Mayor said he would call the factory
and have an engineer from JM come to a Board meeting.
Councilman Smithmeyer requested "SCHOOL ZONE " signs for South 14th Street. This was
referred to the Traffic Officer for study and recommendation.
There being no further bueiness, the meeting adjourned.
