The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Con- troller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had,to-wit; Minutes dispensed with. Council President Salzarulo presented a petition for a stop light at North 19th & Hawkins Road. This was referred to the Police Dept. for study and recommendation. Mr. Lopresti presented the Board with a list of vacant houses and asked that something be done about them. This list was referred to the Fire Dept.for investigation and recommen- dation. City Attorney Cecere moved that the Rite Way Cab Co. be allowed one parking space at, 1132 lain St. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Ralph Brooks, 2914 SE Parkway, complained that the Parkway was in bad condition from the 2500 block east to Henly Road, that soap suds, etc were draining in the ditch along the north side and that there was a lot of speeding along this section. The speeding report was turned over to the Traffic Division and the Engineer told Mr. Brooks the City knew of this condition and were working on a solution. A request of James l'IcCosky for a street light at S.17th & "G" St. was referred to the Light Plant for an estimate of cost. The Board took under advisement a proposal of Robert Foust for removing trees for the City. Don McBride, Park Superintendent, told the Board that something should be done about the heavy traffic in Clear Creek Park before a pedestrian is hurt. The Board recommended per- manent barricades on Clear Creek drive to stop thru traffic. Councilman Walterman told the Board that the stop signs gn "C" St. at South 7th should be replaced with bigger signs. This was referred to the Street Department. The City Engineer reported that he had investigated the water leakage at the Odd Fellows Building at 8th & Main and found that the City had done nothing to cause this seepage. He said however, that water did stand in the gutter at the rear of the building and the City would correct this condition. The Board approved a curb cut at 333 S. 5th Street. The Board unaminously approved the following recommendations of the. Traffic Division; Installation of a traffic light at North 5th & "D" Street to operate from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM and to go on flasher signals the remainder of the time; installation of overhead J lane markers to indicate turn lanes for eastbound traffic; painting of pedestrian cross- walks; painting of yellow curb on north side of "D" Street; installation of a "Signal Ahead" sign and "Turn right on red" sign for eastbound traffic.
