The Board of Public Works & Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City
Attorney Cecere presiding. City Controller Wilson absent. The following business
was had, to-wit;
Minutes dispensed with.
Proofs of publication were presented showing this date had been set to hear interested
taxpayers on Assesment Rolls 1007-195$ and 1013-1956. The proofs were ordered filed.-
After hearing all property owners present and receiving no protests, City Attorney
Cecere moved these Assesment Rolls be adopted. Second by City r'ngineer Deuker.
Mr. George Boston, Commons Lumber Company, asked the Board if water main would be
authorized for the south leg of Parkway Lane in Parkway Hills hird Addition. This was
referred to the Fire Chief & Engineering Dept. for study.
Mr. Foust of Foust Brothers Nurseries appeared and inquired about the possibility of
removing dead trees for the City. He wa.s advised to submit a cost proposal for the
Board to consider.
Mr. William King appeared for the Odd Fellows Lodge and reported that water was seeping
into the basement of their building at the SW corner of 8th & Main St. This was referred
to the Engineering Dept. and Street Commissioner.
Dick Brantner, Alice Jones and Vicki Kanost, Richmond High School Students, requested
improvement of the City owned parking lot at the High School. They stated that school
officials had indicated they would do something with the lot if the school owned it or
leased it. This was left in the hands of the Mayor for discussion with school officials.
Police Chief Mitrione presented a letter of resignation from Patrolman Robert H.Rinehart.
City Attorney Cecere moved this resignation be accepted as of midnight, August 12,1957.
Seconded by City .Engineer Deuker. The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of apprecia-
tion to Patrolman Rinehart.
Police Chief Mitrione recommended the appointment of the following men to the Richmond
Police Dept. , all of them having rated well in tests; John Geiger, Delbert Lee Davis,
Richard W. Smith and Donald Bates, Jr. City Attorney -Cecere moved they be appointed.
Seconded by City Engineer Deuker.
Police Chief Mitrione asked the suns in front of the City Building be changed to read:
"City Business Only". This request approved by the Board.
Police Chief Mitrione made the following recommendations: that flasher lights be installed
`din vicinity of schools; a cross walk be painted on South "0" between Oakland & South 7th,
between entrance to Natco on north side of "0" and parking lot on south side of "0" and
that parking be eliminated from P0" to Oakland on both sides of "0"; a dividing strip be
painted in SE Parkway at 25th & South "A" St. , and stop sign put at all streets at this
intersection. All recommendations approved by Board.
An application for curb cut on SW 3rd for two entrances to service station was amended to
one entrance on SW 3rd to be at least 20° from north sidewalk line of Nat'1.Road. This
station has received state approval for four 30' entrances on Nat'1.Road (US4.0), it being
understood curbs will be built along back of walks at safety island between entrances,
The Mayor reported he had discussed selection of fireman with Fire Chief and all data for
setting up selection system is on hand. City Attorney Cecere moved this selection system
be approved and its operation authorized. Seconded by City Engineer Leuker.
A letter from Mrs. Crarice Spahr, 28 SW 21st St.,Apt.#1, requested a street light in
alley between 20th & 21st from Main to South "A". This was referred to the Engineer &
Police Dept. for recommendation.
A letter from Councilman Vivian referred to the Board a-request from residents in vicinity
of S.18th & "H" St. for a street light. Referred to Engineer & Light plant for recommen-
dation.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
