HomeMy Public PortalAbout06-28-1957 62 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS & SAFETY, RICHMOND,INDIANA FRIDAY, JUNE 28, 1957 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City' Controller Wilson presiding. Allmembers present. The following business was had, to-wit; Minutes dispensed with. IIIRay Needham© owner of property at North 5th & "C" told the Board he planned to raze two buildings at that location and erect a block building for commercial purpose and had been referred to the Board by the Building Inspector. The Board took under ad- visement. Bert Henley and Fred Parker asked the Board what decision had been reached regarding the thru traffic turning from South "A" north on 16th. They were advised this was being studied by the City and State and plans were being formulated to correct the hazardous condition at this intersection. The Board received a letter from Instructor Franklin Walls,Fire Dept.,asking for a voluntary demotion from rank of Instructor to regular fireman effective July 16,1957. The request made because Mr.Walls feels the duties of Instructor require the energies of aypunger man. City Attorney Cecere moved this demotion be made. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Park Sup. McBride told the Board that the barricades in Clear Creek Park were not solving the traffic and parking problem and that a uniformed policeman was needed. He was informed that an office on amotorcycle would be on duty in the park from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM each evening. Sgt. Walter Stout recommended that a 250 yellow curb be painted on South 8th St.At "C" St and a 40' yellow curb be painted on South "C" St. at 8th. Also, that a "No Parking" sign be placed in the yellow section on South "C", and a "Loading Zone" sign be placed in the yellow on 8th. City Attorney Cecere so moved. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Sgt. Walter Stout recommended that yellow curbs be painted on NW 1st St. as follows; west side south from Richmond Ave to driveway; east side-south from Richmond Ave.for 83.51. Also that two "No Parking" signs be placed on the west side and a "No Parking Here to Corner" sign on the east side at south end of yellow. City Engineer Deuker so moved. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. Bill Adler reported he had installed 9 two hour meters on North 9th in the 100 block and 17 two hour meters on Main between llth & 12th and 2 fifteen minute meters in front of the Gas Co. office. The Board approved the parking of a trailer at 8th and Main St. on Saturday,June 29, 1957, by the Jaycees to sell tickets to their Air Show provided it is moved by 10:00PM the same day. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for hearings on Assesment Rolls 1007-1956 and 1013-1956 on July 26,1957. The Board approved an aluminum canopy to be placed over the sidewalk at the Feltman- Curme Shoe store at 720 Main St. The City Controller announced that the City Building would be closed on July 4ths5th and 6th, 1957. The Board unaminously agreed that in the future, no trailers would be allowed to use parking spaces at 8th and Main St. for ticket selling, solicitat ons, etc. c-t/ --- .. ,.27_,,.. ___ President Attest: X4/1.-,e,( 4,4„/ Clerk
