FRIDAY, MAY 31, 1957
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with
City Controller Wilson presiding. City Engineer Deuker absent. The following
business was had, to-wit;
Minutes dispensed with.
Mr. Bert Henley, 72 S.16th St. and Mr. Fred Parker, 75. S. 16th St. presented
a petition to the Board requesting consideration of the routing of thru traffic
east on South "A" to 18th and north to Main Street thus eliminating the hazard-
ous turn at 16th St & S. "A" St. This was referred to the Police Dept. for
study and recommendations.
Bill Adler reported that 4 hour meters had been installed on North and South "A"
between 10th & llth Street. The Board approved a request of Mr. Adler for the
Street Dept. to make signs informing motorists of the 4 hour parking and to place
the signs on South "A" at 10th St end on North "A" at llth Street.
Ass't. Police Chief Conyers requested "No Parking" signs be placed on the first
alley north of "A" between 8th -& 9th St. behind the St. Paul's Episcopal Church
at 800 North "A" St.
The Committee on the "Welcome to Richmond" signs reported that a great deal of
public interest was being shown in these signs and they asked permission to re®.
tort on June 14th so they could take advantage of this interest. Permission
granted.
The Police Dept. was instructed to study the parking on South "F" Street between
6th and 7th Street.
City Attorney Cecere moved that the Street Dept. be ordered to repair the alley
between S. 6th and 7th St. from S. "B" to "C". Seconded by City Controller Wilson,
The Board approved the use of North "E" from 20th St. east to the entrance to Glen
Miller Park' for the Opti-Derby to be held on July 28th, 1957.
The Board instructed the Ass't Police Chief to investigate the parking of trailers
on-North 2nd St. between Main and N. "A".
The Board commended the Auxiliary Police for the fine work they did in helping with
the flow of race traffic thru Richmond on Memorial Day.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
