All members present. jhe following business was had; t o-wit; Minutes dispensed with. It was reported that Esther Nusbaum was unable to serve on the committee to recommend IIIa design for the "Welcome to Richmond" signs and Mrs. Ralph Whisenhunt was named to replace her. Roger Gale, Robert Law and Howard Hammer attended the meeting and told the Board they would have a report at the next Board meeting. A complaint was received regarding the condition of Reeveston Road east of S.24th St. The City Engineer said he knew of this condition and was working on the recondition.. ing of this street. City Engineer Deuker moved that the new Street Department truck be purchased from Dea Meadows Ford Sales for $2075.00. This was the low bid. Seconded by City Controller 'Wilson. The Clerk reported Councilwomen Hoskins had asked if a "No Outlet" sign could be placed on Ratliff St. south of NW "L". The Board approved this installation. • The Mayor reported he had received compliments regarding the crossing guards that had been hired to protect school children when crossing streets. City Controller Wilson read a letter from a resident of South 18th St. who complained of the truck and bus traffic on 18th from South "A" to Main. The letter suggested a better system of signs be placed at S.16th & "A" to keep traffic flowing back to Main on 16th. The City Engineer said he would check with the State Highway and see if better markings -could be installed. The Clerk was instructed to contact the MEL & PP for a recommended improvement in the IIIstreet lighting at South 3rd and "A", so that eastbound traffic on "A" could see the recently installed stop sign. . The Board approved the following "No Parking" ban on May 30th,1957; both sides on Main Street from 3rd to 17th and the south side of the 200 and 300 block of Natl. Rd.West. Said ban to be from 12:00 noon to 9:00 PM. Mayor Cutter reported the Fire Department was in need of two fireman and that approx- imately fifty applications were on hand. He said he• and the Fire Chief had been seeking • a fair way to pick the best men for the openings. He reported he and the Chief had been to Muncie and talked over their plan with the City officials and that their method of examination and training seemed very good. He asked the Board to study this problem so the best suited men could be picked for fireman. Bill Adler reported the new 4 hour parking meters had been received and would be installed in several weeks on North and South "A" from 10th to llth St. He suggested signs be in- stalled in these blocks informing citizens that these are 4 hour meters.
