OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND,INDIANA
• FRIDAY/ MAY .17, 1957
The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City
Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had,
to-wit;
Minutes dispensed with.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to receive bids
on a truck for the Street Department. The following bids were received;
Kurdys Chevrolet $2340.00
Raper Sales, Dodge 2350.00
Dea Meadows Fors 2075.00
City Attorney Cecere moved bids be taken under advisement. Seconded by City Engineer
Deuker.
The Board took under advisement the estimate of the MEL & PP for street lights in the
Glen Hills First Sub-Division at a cost of $2660.00
Mrs. Kenneth Goodwell, Director of Vacation Bible School of the 1st. Presby. Church,
requested reserved parking spaces on North "A" by the church in the mornings of June
10th to June 21st. City Attorney Cecere moved they be allowed 4Ve-spaces located
by the church . Seconded by City
Controller Wilson.
The Board approved the following locations for the placement of benches by Bench-Ad
of Indiana: South-east corner of; S.8th & "E", "M", "L", "N", "0", and North 10th &
"J"; the North-east corner of; North 8th & "E", N.13th & "E1-, N. 15th & "E"; the
North-east of N.12th & "E"; the South-west corner of N.12th & "J", and the South-east
corner of South 5th & "E" St; front of Crosley on Williamsburg Pike, and the South-
west corner of S. 5th & "G" St.
The Board received a letter of resignation from Capt. Eugene Juurling of the Police
Dept. , effective May 24, 1957. The resignation was accepted and the Clerk was ordered
to write Capt. Juerling a letter of appreciation.

The Mayor reported the City had been offered a chance to buy the property at the SW
corner of N.10th & "A", where the central Methodist Church is located. No action
taken.
The Board approved the following curb cuts; 401 at SW corner of North 16th & "F" Sts. ,
and 301 on North "B" between 8th & 9th Sts. provided a cement sidewalk is build.
The Engineer was instructed to contact the person responsible for obstructing a culvert
at South 23rd and "G" advising him that the obstruction would have to be removed im-
mediately or the City would. take steps to have it removed.
The Board picked the following persons to serve on a committee to plan and design "'welcome
to Richmond" signs; Esther Nusbaum, Chairman, Roger Gale, Robert Law and Howard Hammer.
The Committee to report to the Board of Works on May 24th,
May or Cutter informed the Board that he would like to have open house in Cith Hall
sometime in June.
The Board gave approval for 4 policemen to go to Dayton,Ohio oh May 22, 1957, to attend
an FBI sponsored school for policemen.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.
