HomeMy Public PortalAbout04-26-1957 50 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, APRIL 26, .1957 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson being absent, City Attorney Cecere presiding. The following busi- ness was had, to-wit; Minutes dispensed with. Jack O'Maley requested permission to park a trailer at the SE corner of 8th and Main on May 10,11,12, & 13th. Said trailer to occupy two parking spaces and to be used to aid in the gerebral Palsy Fundraising campaign. City ''ngineer Deuker moved that permission be granted. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. - The Board rejected a request of Montgomery Ward for the use of 4 parking spaces on South 9th and 3 on South 7th for the display of merchandise on the evening of April 26, 1957. The Board rejected a request of Mr. Ferguson,Indianapolis, to place a nine foot strip of floor covering material from curb to curb across Main St. at 10th and Main St. Said demonstration to show the durability and cleansing qualities of the floor covering. The Board agreed to consider further the request of Walter Raizen, Bench-Ad of Indiana, Inc. , to place benches at various places in Richmond provided Mr. Raizen presents a list of places in the industrial areas of the City. The Clerk was instructed to write the Noon Optimist Club regarding the bad condition of the trash receptacles on the downtown streets. The •Optimist Club to be .advised their contract would be .cancelled if proper maintenance isn't given said receptacles. Bill Adler reported fifty (50) four hour parking meters had been ordered for installation on North and South "A" between 10th and llth Streets. The Board approved the .installation of two (2) fifteen minute meters in front of the nichmond Gas Corporation when meters are installed in that block. Ass't Police Chief Conyers asked Board approval of the following sites for the conduct of street traffic safety checks; U.S. 27, south of Reid Memorial Hospital; US 35 & 38, south of Perfect Circle; North "A" St. between llth- and 12th; National Road West at Earlham college; National Road West between 17th & 18th, and on the Whitewater Blvd. City Attorney Cecere moved these sites of safety checks be approved. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Upon the recommendation of Ass't. Chief Conyers, the Board kept under advisement the bids received for Police motorcycles. The Board received a letter of resignation from John J.Rizio, Police Dept, effective May 1, 1957. The Board accepted, with regrets, this resignation and ordered the Clerk to write a letter of appreciation to Mr. Rizio. Ass't. Chief Conyers recommended that Patrolman Donald Strahan be made a detective to replace John Rizio, as of May 1, 1957. City mngineer Deuker so moved. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Engineer Deuker moved that the oil bid ®f the Warfield Oil Company be accepted for the heating season from Sept. 1, 1957 to June 1, 195$. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Attorney Cecere moved that the coal bid of the Klehfoth-Voss Co. be accepted for the 60tons of stoker coal for the City Garage and for the 10 tons of Kentucky Lump for the Park Police Residence. The balance of the bid to be awarded to the Kendall Coal Co. Seconded by City Engineer 'euker. The board approved the installation of tile from Sheridan St. eastwardly to the river, to aid the carrying of storm water, and the elimination of a small pond along the Whitewater Blvd. City Engineer moved the water mains be extended east to 28th Street in the following streets; Reeveston Road, South C Place, South D Street and South E Street, and that hydrants be placed on 28th Street at the above named streets. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Engineer Deuker moved the water main in South "A" St. be exteded east• in north Park- way Lane to between lost 5 and 6 and hydrant be installed at the end of line. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. 51 The Board approved the Street Department paving of a drive to the garage and dump at the Sewage Disposal Plant. City Engineer 'Jeuker moved to allow a curb cut at 101 SW "I" Street. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. The Board approved specifications for a truck to be used by the Street Department and ordered advertisements placed for the taking of bids. Civil Defense requested permission to place a portable generator in the alley north of 111 City Nall for use during their alert on April 28th. Permission granted by Board.
