HomeMy Public PortalAbout03-01-1957 9j OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, MARCH 1, 1957 The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with City Controller Wilson presiding. All members present. The following business was had, to-wit: Minutes dispensed with. . III City Attorney Cecere moved to have the Street Department build a foot bridge over Clear Creek on Peacock Road. Seconded by City Controller Wilson, The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been set to receive bids on a station wagon for the Fire Department. The followings bids were opened. Dea Meadows Ford $2611.00 Kurdys Chevrolet 2880.00 Vivian Buick 3450.00 These bids were taken under advisement, The Clerk presented a petition for curb, gutters and sidewalk on both sides of South Parry Street from 10th to 12th. Referred to Engineer for study. The Board read letter from Charles Keen, 120 SW "G" St, asking permission to move a 200 x 20° garage over City streets from 221 N. 6th to 120 SW "G" St. The Board gave approval provided the mover assumes responsibility for any damage done to City Streets or to utilities, and that approval is secured from the State, for use of a State Highway for said moving. The Clerk presented the Board a Resolution from Council asking for the immediate es- tablishment of a truck eoute. This resolution was referred to the Traffic Dept. for recommendation. III City Controller Wilson moved to keep the bid on the Street Department tractor under advisement. City Attorney Cecere moved to take the request of the Noon Optimist Club to renew their contract for the street corner trash receptacles. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker Police Chief Mitrione recommended the probation period for all police officers hired in 1957 be for one year. City ngineer Deuker so moved. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Fire Chief Williams recommended the extension of the present water main in South "Q" St., east from South 13th for a distance of approximately 6000 . City 1''ngineer Deuker so moved. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Fire Chief Williams recommended fire hydrants be placed at the ends of the present water mains in North 28th and 29th St. City Engineer Deuker so moved. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. - City Controller Wilson moved to purchase enough additional Duncan parking meters to com- plete the installation around the Court House and that the meters on South "A" St. from 3rd to 4th be changed to 2 hour meters. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker® The Board approved the following curb cuts: 3001 National Road East, provided the State Highway approves; NW corner of 30th and E. Main, provided the state Highway approves; 998 N. 10th Street, and on National Road West between SE 4th & Kutters Supermarket, provided the State approves. The Clerk was asked to write a-letter to the State Highway advising them of the making of 3rd one way from Main to South "A" and to ask permission to move the Route 40 By-Pass sign from 2nd to 3rd Street. City Controller Wilson moved to move the parking meters on North "A" St between 10th & llth to main St between 10th & llth. 3$ • contsd. City Engineer Deuker moved to name the 1st alley south of North "D" St. between 3rd : .._ . and 5th St. , "Checkerboard Lane" and to pave the same. Also, to make Checkerboard Lane one way west from 3rd to 4th, and to make North "C" one way east from 3rd to 4th.
