AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA,
FRIDAY, JANUARY 25, 1957 •
The Board of' Public Works and Safety met in regular session in City Hall with
City Controller Wilson presiding. City Attorney Oecere being absent. The following business
was had: to-wit:
On motion duly made and seconded, the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting were dispensed with.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication that this date had been-set to receive
bids for a station wagon for the Fire Department. The following bids were
received and opened:
pea Meadows Ford Sales $3050.00
Kurdy's Chevrolet 2625.00
Brower & Morrison, Lincoln & Mercury$3215.00
The City Engineer, Mr. Deuker, moved the bids be taken under advisement. Second-
ed by City Controller Wilson.

• A group of seven (7) residents of West Main Street appeared and protested the
parking ban from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM on West Main from 1st Street to 5th Street.
They said the parking ban was hurting their business and asked that it be
removed. The Traffic Department was ordered to make a thorough study of this
area to see if-the parking ban was speeding the flow of traffic and to report
their findings to the Board.
Police Chief Mitrione presented a letter of resignation from Detective Captain
Clarence Trotter, effective February 9, 1957. The Board accepted this resignation
with regret and asked the Clerk to write a letter to Capt. Trotter thanking him
for his long and faithful service to the citizens of Richmond.
The Police Chief said he wanted to add a Technician to his Department to handle
such things as fingerprinting, photographing, etc. and recommended Detective
• Milo Brann for the job. Detective Brann to assume new position on January 30,
1957. Patrolman Lewis Doren will be placed in the Deteetive Bureau as of 1-30-
57. City Controller Wilson moved that these changes be approved by the Board.
Seconded by City Engineer Deuker.
Police Chief Mitrione recommended Collins Dickerson, 1351 Ridge St. , be hired
as a Probationary Patrolman effective January 30, 1957. City Engineer Deuker
moved that he be hired. Seconded by City Controller Wilson.
The Police Chief reported on the speed check made on trains. The report showed
that the speed of 33 trains were checked and only 3 were found to be going over
the legal 46 MPH limit. The Chief reported he very fine cooperation from the
rail road in this study.
The Board approved specifications for" a car for the Dairy Inspector and ordered
the Clerk to advertise for bids.
The Board ordered the Traffic Dept. to make a study of the streets around the
six funeral homes to see if signs should be placed to prohibit parking in these
areas.
Fire Chief Williams recommended the hiring of rrvin 0. Perkins, 715 N. 10th St.
as a Probationary Fireman effective January 30,_ 1957. City Engineer Deuker moved
that he be hired. Seconded by City Controller Wilson.
The Clerk read a letter from Marc Wessel, President of the Richmond Retail '
Merchants, urging the elimination of truck traffic through downtown Richmond.
There being no further business presented, the meeting adjourned.
