HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-23-1956 18 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA, FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 23, 1956 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the City Hall of said City, Friday, November 23, 1956, at the hour of 9:00 AM (DST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Cecers & Mr. Deuker. The following business was had, to-wit: The Clerk presented proofs of publication that November 23, 1956 had been set to receive bids on Improvement Resolution 1008-1956. The proofs were ordered filed. One bid received and opened - Robinson Brothers for $11,644.29. City Engineer Deuker moved the bid be taken under advisement. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk read a letter from Rudolph Leeds asking that the trees on South "A" on property of 131 S. 18th St. , be removed rather than topped. This was referred to the Light Plant. City Controller Wilson read a letter from Councilman Vivian asking that street name signs be placed in Parkway Hills Addition in the Charles School area. City Engineer Deuker to confer with Charles Darr regarding said signs. City Engineer Deuker moved to approve curbs cuts at North west corner of Richmond Avenue and Northwest 1st Street. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. City Engineer Deuker moved to grant a permanent easement to the State Highway Department of a triangular piece of ground, 401 x 45° at the Southeast corner of North 10th and Oak Drive on property owned by the Civil City that is being leased to Reid Memorial Hospital. And that a temporary easement be granted for a strip approximately 300° x 15° south from Oak Drive on the east side of North 10th Street on property owned by the Civil City that is being leased to Reid Memorial Hospital. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Police Chief Mitrione made the following recommendation for crossing guards: that five (5) guards be hired at a monthly salary of $60.00 per month for a ten (10) month period, and three (3) be hired the first of the year for duty at the following locations: NW 16th and National Road, North 9th and. "C" Street, and North 9th and "H" St. The two additional guards to be hired as the need arises. The Board unaminously approved this recommendation. City Attorney Cecere moved that the $3,000.00 needed to pay crossing guards be put in the narking Meter budget for 1957 until said salaries can be in- eluded in the Police Department budget for 1958. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Police Chief Mitrione said he would continue the survey of ,:pedestrians crossing Main Street at West 1st Street and would submit a report to the Board giving the cost of installation of "Walk" and "Dont Walk" signs for north and south crossing of daid intersection.
