HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-16-1956 I7 OFFICE OF BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 16, 1956 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in the City Hall of said City, Friday, November 16, 1956, at the hour of 9:00 AM (DST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. .Cecere and Mr. Deuker. The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made and seconded, the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that November 16,. 1956, had been set for a hearing on Improvement Resolution 1013-1956. The proofs were ordered filed. After hearing all interested property owners, City Attorney Cecere moved to take the Improvement Resolution under advisement. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Mr. Don Bell told the Board that the fireman who were helping put up the Christmas lights were not properly covered by insurance by the Richmond Retail Merchants Bureau. City Attorney Cecere moved that the fireman put up no more lights until proper insurance coverage was secured. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. The Clerk presented proofs of publication that November 16, 1956, had been set for the receiving of bids on Improvement Resolutions 1010-1956 and 1011-1956. The proofs were ordered filed. No bids were received. The Board decided to hold these Improvement Resolutions in abeyance with the possibility that they could be readvertised at a later date. City Controller Wilson moved that no reserved parking space be allowed on South 4th Street for the use of the constable working out of the office of the Justice of the Peace. Seconded by City engineer Deuker. Sgt. Gower, U.S. Army Recruiting Office, requested three (3) parking spaces on the east side of North 9th Street on Monday, November 19, 1956. City Attorney Cecere so moved. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. City -ngineer Deuker moved to allow the C & 0 Railroad to run a drain pipe from their tracks under the 20th Century Bridge to the Whitewater River. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. City Engineer Deuker moved to adopt Assesmane Roll 1004-1956. Seconded by City Cnotroller Wilson. The Clerk was instructed to advertise for a hearing. The Board unaminously approved the plat of the Jarvis Addition and the plat of the Milleson Addition. City Controller Wilson moved to install parking meters in the following locations: 3 meters on S. 7th St. by the old Vortex Service Station 2 meters on South "A" Street by the Christian Church 1 meter on North "A'!, between 7th and 8th, by the driveway into the used car lot. City Engineer Deuker seconded. Police Chief Mitrione reported to the Board that Officer Richard Mason, had, on five different occasions, failed to comply with orders given him by his superior officers. The Chief recommended that he be suspended, without pay, from November 17, 1956 to December 1, 1956. The Board concurred with this recommendation. 1The Clerk read a letter from the William H. Turner Realty Corp. in which the sidewalks at the following locations were reported to be in bad condition: 911 - 919 Main Street, 15 - 21 & 21 - 23 S. 7th Street, and 18 S. 4th Street.
