HomeMy Public PortalAbout11-09-1956 16 OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 1956 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, November 9, 1956, at the hour of 9:00 (DST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Deuker and Mr. Cecere® The following business was had, to-wit: On motion duly made and seconded the minutes of the previous meeting were dispensed with. City Engineer Deuker moved that Robinson Brothers be awarded the contract for Improvement Resolution 1007-1956,.for the sum of $4741.35. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Attorney Cecere moved to allow the Eastern Star Lodge one reserved parking space on North "A" Street at 9th Street on Saturday November 10, 1956. Seconded by City .6ngineer Deuker. City Engineer Deuker moved to confirm Improvement Resolution 1008-1956. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Engineer Deuker moved to adopt Improvement Resolution 1012-1956. Seconded by City Attorney Cecere. City Engineer Deuker moved to approve the following recommendations made by the Richmond. Water Works: -- New 8" main in South 20th St. , from 6" main in South 20th & ",A" to South "B" St. New 8" main in South "A" Street from 20th to 21st Street. New 8" main in South "Q" Street from 4th to 8th, connecting into 6" dead-end mains in South 4th, 5th, 6th, Oakland, 7th and 8th Streets. Secondednby City Attorney Cecere. City Attorney Cecere moved to black top the first alley South of North "D" St. between 4th and 5th and to make same street onw way westbound and to make North "C" between 4th and 5th one way eastbound. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. Police Chief Mitrione recommended the removal of one parking meter west of the Post Office drive-in mail box on Nprth "A" Street. City Attorney Cecere so moved. Seconded by City Engineer Deuker. City Attorney Cecere moved to.install signs prohibiting parking on West Main St. from 1st to 5th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily, ,except Sunday and Holidays. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. Councilman Thomas told' the Board that consideration should be given for "Walk" and "Dont Walk" signs at West 1st and Main and at West 5th and Main. He commented that these intersections were hazardous for pedestrians. Police Chief Mitrione requested the 15 minute parking limit signs in front of the City Building be replaced with signs that read: "15 Minute Parking - City Building Only". City Attorney Cecere so moved. Seconded by City Controller Wilson. City Controller Wilson told the Board of the inconsistency of the bills for electric current that are received from the Light Plant. He was told to take his findings to the Board of Directord of the Light Plant. The Board concurred with its previous decision regarding a traffic light at North 12th and "J" St. The Board felt that the present installation should be surveyed before help is requested from the State Highway Dept. The Clerk was instructed to write Mr. H. D. Dargitz, State Highway Department, requesting permission to eliminate parking on both sides of East Main Street from 17th Street to the City Limits.
