OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 21, 1956
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular
session in its- office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, September 21, 1956, at
the hour of 8:00 o'clock A.M. (CST). Mr. Wilson presiding with. the following members
being. present: Mr. Deuker and Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, to-mit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were
dispensed with.
Mr. Bill Lingle, Contractor, requested water for the Morningside First Sub-Division.
City Attorney Cecere moved that this be approved seconded by City Controller Wilson.
City Engineer Deuker and Fire Chief Williams to confer on location of hydrants.
Charles Darr, Street Commissioner, asked if there had been an agreement whereby the
storm sewer in the Harbin Addition was to have been built by the contractor. He said
he could not maintain the streets if there was no drainage.
Police Chief Mitrione reported that he was still working on the bicycle parking problem
at the theatres and would make a report at the next Board meeting. He also said he
would have some information on the crossing guards for school children protection.
City Attorney Cecere moved and City Controller Wilson seconded that two hour parking
be posted on Southwest 1st Street from Whitewater Blvd. to Southwest "D" Street. .
Police Chief Mitrione. was instructed to inform school officials and work on educational
program for students.
Police Chief Mitrione was instructed to check on the report of trucks parking on the
sidewalk on North 8th Street between "F" and "G" and of trucks blocking drives on
South "K" west of 9th Street. . -
The Clerk was instructed to write the Wells Pontiac Company regarding protrusion of
cars over the sidewalk on South "A" and on South 9th Street.
City Controller Wilson moved and City Attorney Cecere seconded a motion that a street
light be installed at South 19th and "H" as per the plans submitted by the Light Plant
at a estimated cost of $256.34.
City Controller Wilson read a letter from the State Board of Health regarding the
sanitary sewer to Berry Field. City Attorney Cecere to check financing and get with
City Engineer Deuker and Sanitary District Superintendent Ross.
City Engineer Deuker was instructed to check the location of a billboard at the north-
west corner of North 12th and "J" Street at the end of the bridge. Location reportedly
on ground dedicated for use as an alley.
City Controller Wilson reported that the rewireing of the Police Radio tower had been
completed.
City Engineer Deuker to check with City Plan Commission regarding giving up dedicated
ground at South 25th and Southeast Parkway.
Bill Adler reported he had installed 2 fifteen minute meters in front of the First Federal
Savings & Loan Assn. on North 9th Street.
The Board approved installation of signs at South 10th and "A", 10th and Main, North 10th
and "A" and at 5th and Main directing motorists to the Municipal Parking lots on North
10th and South 5th. City Attorney Cecere moved and City Controller Wilson seconded this
motion.
Bill Adler reported the parking meters have been removed from the west side of South 8th
from "A" to the Dairy Whip Store.
City Engineer Deuker moved to allow a water line to be run across Colfax Street at Sherwood,
City Controller Wilson seconded this motion.
The Board unanimously agreed that the Market House Parking lot should be a 12 hour park-
ing lot and should be checked as such.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, seconded and carried, the
meeting adjourhed.
