FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 1956 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular session in its office in the.City Hall in said City, Friday. September 14, 1956, at the hour of 8:00 o'clock A.M. (CST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the.following'members be- ing present: Mr. ,Deuker and Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, ,tomwit: On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were ' dispensed with. City Engineer Deuker reported he had been trying to contact Curt Rosar of the Lehr Equip- men Sales Co. regarding the complaint brought to the attention of the Board on Sept. 7, 1956. He said Mr. Rosar was on vacation, but he would see him when he returns to Rich- mond. City Engineer Deuker said.the materials for the stop light to be located at North 10th and "J"Street were is town and that the installation would be made soon. Jack Hooker, First Federal Savings and Loan Ass'n. appeared and asked for two 15 minute parking meters to be located in front of that establishment on North.9th Street, north of Sailor Street. The Board approved the installation of these meters. He also asked if something could be done to improve the flow of traffic on Sailor Street. He said his Company had a drive in window on Sailor Street and blocking of the street prohibited the use of said window. Ass't. Police Chief Conyers was instructed to study traffic at this sopt and make recommendations at the next Board meeting. Councilman Salzarulo appeared before the Board and asked if the M.E.L. & P.P. should rightfully assume the cost of relocation of street lights and cables in connection with the widening of South 3rd Street from Main to "A". He said he thought the work should be paid for.out of the Parking Meter Budget. He was advised by the Board that .the Council had, on motion duly made and seconded, unanimously approved the relocation to be done , and paid for by the M.E.L. & P.P. and that the other utilities involved were going to bear the cost of relocating their fixtures. David Hoover and two. members of the Save Our Parks Club.appeared before the Board and said the City should. improve the area in Old Star Park where the graves of pioneers are now located. City Engineer Deuker remarked that the City had agreed to erect a suitable marker for these graves and that W.C. Dennis had said he would propose a suitable marker. The Clerk was instructed to contact Mr. Dennis regarding this matter. Ass't. Police Chief Conyers presented the following recommendations from Capt. Juerling: placing of "STOP" signs at South 10th and "G" Street so as to make 10th the thru street; painting of yellow curb at southwest corner of South 8th and "N" Street to allow faster movement of traffic from the Natco; cross walks be painted across Whitewater Blvd. at Civic Hall so pedestrians crossing after ball games would have a definite area to use, yellow curb at 903 S. 7th Street for use by parents of a crippled child. The Board took. all of these recommendations under advisement. The Board authorized the City Engineer to sign an agreement with the Pennsylvania R.R. for an easement under said R.R. for a sewer leading north from Glen Miller Park provided the R.R. charges no fee. • • - City Engineer Deuker reported the improvement of the alley north of Main between N.W. loth and llth would begin September 17, 1956. The Board gave approval for the installation df a 60" pipe 40' long under South 21st &-G. • City Controller Wilson moved and City Attorney seconded that the parking meters be re- moved and the curb painted yellow on the west side of South 8th Street from "A" to the entrance to the Dairy Whip Ice Cream, Store.
