FRIDAY, JUNE, 22, 1956
The Board. of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular
session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, June 22, 1956, at the hour
of 8:00 &clock A.M. (CST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the following. members being pre-
sent: Mr. Deuker and Mr. Cecere. The following business, was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the. minutes of the previous meeting were dis-
pensed with.
The Clerk presented proofs of publication printed in the Richmond Palladium-Item, on the
dates of June 7-14, 1956, that sealed bids would be received on this date for Improvement
Resolution No. 1004-1956. The proofs were ordered filed. '
One bid was received, opened and read aloud:
Robinson Brothers General Contractors $4958.16
City Engineer Deuker moved and City Controller Wilson seconded that the contract be
awarded to Robinson Brothers.
Robert Hines of the West End Building & Loan, appeared before the Board and asked the
Board to install 15 minute meters in the vicinity of the West End Building & Loan. City
Attorney Cecere recommended that two (2) 15 minute meters be installed at each four
corner intersection from 4th to 7th Streets after the completion of the Market House
Parking Lot.
Vic Frisch of the Ralston Purina Company complained to the Board regarding the traffic
conditions near the Ralston-Purina Company.. He was advised by the City Engineer that a
study had been made regarding this traffic and that he would look up the old records and
present them to the Board at a future meeting.
The Clerk presented a complaint from Councilman Thomas regarding parking on the sidewalk
on Northwest 13th from Main north to Municipal Ball Park. Police Chief Mitrione re-
commended that parallel parking be permitted only on that street. City Attorney Cecere
moved that the Street Department be instructed 'to install the proper signs, seconded by
City Controller Wilson.
City Attorney Cecere moved that "No Parking"- signs be installed on both sides of North-
west 13th north of Peacock Road and on the north side of Peacock Road from Clear Creek
to Northwest 13th, seconded by City Controller Wilson.
The Clerk presented to the Board a complaint of Councilwoman Hoskins regarding a pool of
stagnant water along Whitewater Blvd. at the rear of the 600 Block Sheridan Street. City
Engineer Deuker said the City knew of this pool and were taking steps to eliminate it.
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Rodefeld Company at Northwest 1st and Main ask-
ing them to correct the dusty condition of their parking lot.
City Engineer Deuker reported that Capt. Juerling had received complaints regarding the
congested alley between Main and South "A" from 7th to 8th Street. Police Chief Mitrione
was instructed to have the police to keep this alley clear of parked cars.
City Controller Wilson reported that trash from bond fires was piled in the High School
parking lot across from Civic Hall. City Controller Wilson was instructed to call the
Sanitary District and have them remove the trash.
Compaints-were received retarding parking in Randolph Street at the west end of the 20th
Century Bridge. The Clerk was instructed to write to the owner of the filling station
at that location asking him to stop this illegal parking.
The Clerk was instructed to write to the Livingston Body Company at South 7th and "M"
Street telling them #to stop using the street for repair work.
The Clerk was instructed to have the Street Department paint the yellow curb white on
North 17th Street at the Porter Sign Company.
City Engineer Deuker moved and City Attorney Cecere seconded that new fence posts be
installed where needed around the Police Radio Station and the fence be painted.
Claims in the amount of $6486.52 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, seconded nd carried,
the meeting adjourned.
