AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, MAY 18, 1956
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular
session in its office In the City Hall in said City, Friday, May 18, 1956, at the hour
of 8:00 o'clock A.M. (CST), Mr. Wilson presiding with the following members being
present: Mr. Deuker and Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, to-wit:
On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous meeting were
dispensed with.
City Engineer Deuker reported on his investigation of the overhead conveyor that extends
across N.W. "K" Street at the Lehr Equipment Company. He'will continue his investigation
and make a further report on the 25th of -May.
Plans for three (3) additional street lights on Clear Creek Drive between Main and
National Road West at an estimated cost of $504.42 were approved by City Attorney
Cecere and seconded by City Controller Wilson.
The Clerk read a letter from Jesse Beals regarding fire protection in the Beals First
Addition. The Board approved installation of fire hydrants on Southwest "I" half way
.between Abington Pike and Southwest 1st Street and two (2) fire hydrants on Southwest
1st Street.
Steve Napier appeared before the Board requesting fire protection for South 15th and
South 16th Streets south of "L". - He was advised by the Board that these streets had
not been dedicated but the dedication would be ready by the 25th of May at which time
fire protection would be ordered for the above mentioned streets.
City Attorney Cecere moved and City Engineer. Duker seconded that yellow curbs be
painted on both sides of S.W. 17th Street.north 50 feet from National Road West.
Police Chief Mitrione was told to contact the owner of the Dairy Queen at Southwest
17th Street and National Road West regarding the signs that obstruct the view on
National Road. •
City Engineer Deuker moved and City Attorney Cecere seconded that the following curb
cuts be allowed:
606-608 South "L" Street and 105 South 20th Street on "A" Street
City Engineer Deuker was instructed to contact the owner of the property at the north-
west corner of South 8th and "A" regarding the parking of cars on the sidewalk.
Approval was given for a .private water line running south from Railroad Street to
Northwest "E" Street.
.Police Chief Mitrione recommended that Detective Clarence Trotter be promoted to
Capt. of Detectives effective May 16, 1956. _City Attorney moved and City Controller
Wilson seconded that this recommendation':be approved.
• Fire Chief Williams recommended that Lt. Sam Polver be promoted to Capt. effective
May 16, 1956. City Attorney Cecere moved and City Controller Wilson seconded that
this recommendation be approved.
Fire Chief Williams reported that four (4) firemen will attend a school at Prudue on
May 22, 1956.
City Controller reported for Bill Adler stating that parking meters have not been
cleaned for 22 years and that they should be cleaned this summer and that additional
help would be needed.
The Board rejected a request by Ray Myers, Manager of the Leland Hotel, for the re-
moval of one (1) parking meter on South 10th Street between the two Leland Hotel
Parking Lots.
The Board rejected all bids for the razing of the Market House and instructed the
Street Department to do this work.
Claims in the amount of $56,264.30 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made, second 'd and carried,
