OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS
AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA.
FRIDAY, MARCH 9, 1956
The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in regular
session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, March 9, 1956, at the
hour of 8:00 o'clock A.M. (CST). Mr. Wilson presiding with the following members be-
ing present: Mr. Deuker and Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, to-wit:
City Attorney Cecere moved and City Engineer Deuker seconded that the minutes of the
previous meeting be dispensed with.
City Engineer Deuker moved and City Attorney Cecere seconded that the installation of
street lights in the Parkway Hills Addition and on South "F" Street between 17th and
19th Streets were approved.
City Engineer Deuker presented a petition signed by 18 persons requesting street lights
on North 24th Street, north of Hawkins Road to the City Limits and south of the New
Paris Pike. City Engineer Deuker will contact the Light Plant and report his recom-
mendations at a future meeting.
City Engineer Deuker presented petitions for curb cuts at 310 North 5th Street and at
23.25 North 3rd Street. City Engineer Deuker moved and City Attorney Cecere seconded
that these petitions be allowed.
City Controller Wilson reported that the Light Plant would have to order a 4-way
blinker light to be installed at North 8th and "D" Streets.
City Controller Wilson recommended that the City have a pest control system and presented
litature regarding a portable spray outfit. This litature was turned over to Don
McBride, Park Superintendent and Ed Ross, Superintendent of the Sanitary District for
their recommendations.
A letter was presented to the Board requesting fire protection for the Glen Hills
First Addition. This letter was referred to the Engineering Department and Fire Chief -
for recommendations. -
The Board rejected a request of Edward Cole for 2 parking spaces on South 9th Street
in front of Montgomery_Ward Company and on south 7th Street in front of Montgomery_
Ward Farm Store for Saturday, March 10, 1956 from 8:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. These apaces
were requested for a exhibition of machinery.
Fred Lewis appeared before the Board and the following complaints were referred to
Police Chief Mitrione: Parking in alley at Southwest 1st and National Road West and
parking on the wrong side of the street on College Avenue.
The Board unanimously approved the installation of fire hydrants in the Fairfield Park
First Addition and the eakland-Second Addition.
Mayor Cutter presented a request for a ,yellow curb on North 17th Street by the side
entrance of the Margaret Smith Home. City Attorney Cecere moved and City Engineer
Deuker seconded that this yellow zone be allowed.
Mayor Cutter reported the need for an established policy for the repair and maintenance
of sidewalks in the City of Richmond.
Fire Chief Williams recommended the appointment of Robert Pottinger as Probationary
Fireman effective March 8, 1956. The Board unanimously approved this recommendation._
Police Chief Mitrione reported on his schooling at Prudue University. He also reported
that there are two openings for Patrolmen at the present time and there Tabuld be one
additional opening on April 1, 1956. He reported that 26 men would take State Examina-
tions the evening of March 9, 1956 for these openings in the Police Department.
Claims in the amount of $19,936.96 were allowed.
There being no further business presented on motion duly made seconded and carried
the meeting adjourned.
