HomeMy Public PortalAbout02-24-1956 182 • OFFICE OF THE BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY, RICHMOND, INDIANA. • FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24, 1956 The Board of Public Works and Safety of the City of Richmond, Indiana, met in re • - gular session in its office in the City Hall in said City, Friday, February 24, 1956, , at the hour of 8:00 o'clock A.M. (CST). Mr.. Wilson presiding with the following members being present: Mr. Deuker and -Mr. Cecere. The following business was had, to-wit: • On motion duly made, seconded and carried, the minutes of the previous_ meeting were dispensed with. City Engineer Deuker. presented a proposed plan to provide unloading areas for trucks on North 6th Street, between Main and the alley, on North 9th Street, between 'lain and the alley, and on Main Street on the Southeast corner. of 6th and Main. This proposal was referred to the Police Department and Capt. Juerling for further study. The Clerk was instructed to contact the petitioners 'on South 15th and South 16th Streets who are_ petitioning for those streets to be brought up to grade South of South L Street and to have them contact the City Engineer regarding these streets. City Attorney Cecere moved and City Engineer Deuker seconded a motion that the 1956 Red Cross Fund Campaign Chairman, Lowell Patti, be allowed to display light . pole collars on Main Street beginning March 3rd and was unanimously carried. The Clerk reported that Councilman Waltermann had received complaints regarding the excessive amount of water that was coming from the W'hitewater Valley Generating Station and being empied into a small stream south. of South Q Street. The Clerk was instructed to refer this to Mr. Beck. - A petition for a traffic light at North 13th Street and E. Street was referred to • the City Engineer and Traffic Safety Department for recommendations. ' City Engineer Deuker moved and City. Attorney Cecere seconded a motion to have four- way stops be placed at N.W. L and Sheridan Street and at North 8th and D Street was unanimously carried. - • City Engineer Deuker reported that the Light Plant would move the utility pole on the entrance to the alley on North C Street between 7th and 8th Streets. . A group of citizens appeared before the Board and asked about the progress that was being made in the construction of a storm sewer on South G Street between 16th and 23rd Streets. They were advised by the Board that a Bond issue would probable_be necessary for this construction and that plans and an estimate of cost would be ready by March 23rd for this work. • Police Chief Mitrione presented a letter to the Board from Officer John B. Murphy • stating that he has been on the force since May 10, 1930 and because of persona). reasons of health, he was presenting his resignation effective February 29, 1956. The Board unanimously accepted this resignation and instructed the Clerk to write Officer Murphy a letter expressing the gratitude of the Board fox the long period - • of faithful and efficient service he had completed. Fire Chief Williams reported that the Fire Department has received a new Fire truck and invited the Board to witness the tests of the truck on February 27, 1956. The Board unanimously approved Ellsworth McCowan as the new janitor for the City Building. Police Chief Mitrione reported that the school children using Bridge Avenue were observing the walking area along this. Avenue and that, all. precautions would be taken to see that these children would be protected. .
